Not as bad as you might think. The lights aren't on 24/7, and they are DC, not AC. For example, a single spider is about 120 pixel. At FULL power showing white each pixel uses 0.06Amps, that's about 6.2Amp per Spider at 12V. That's only 74 watts. He can run all 16 spiders under 10Amp AC (give or take). That's only if they are at FULL brightness and white. Most WS2811 pixels are bright enough to run at 30% at night, and you'll notice he's never at full white. I would be surprised if his electric bill is more than $20/month additional for this.

There's a guy that lives near me who's friends with my uncle who does this and he has his own transmitter for FM frequencies. He transmits the songs that the lights are programmed to on his frequency so that you can listen to them and watch the lights simultaneously without keeping all the neighbours awake.
