I love this flick. I quote it almost daily. Check the theater scene. Wyatt and his wife are in the box talking before the show. You can see the actors standing in the background, waiting for their cue to enter the box. Also in the Curly shoots Fred scene, you can clearly see the squib (exploding blood gunshot effect) bulging under Fred's vest, and the squib trigger wire running up his pant leg! Adds to the charm.

Val Kilmer's portrayal of Doc Holliday in the movie "Tombstone" offers an interesting lens through which we can explore the relationship between his character and the sephirot of Kabbalah. Doc Holliday is depicted as a complex and multifaceted individual, and his quotes in the movie can be examined through the framework of the sephirot to gain deeper insights. "I'll be your huckleberry." This famous quote reflects Doc Holliday's fearless and confident nature, as well as his willingness to take on challenges. In terms of the sephirot, it resonates with the sephirah of Gevurah (Strength), which represents power, courage, and determination. "My hypocrisy goes only so far." This quote showcases Doc Holliday's self-awareness of his own flaws and contradictions. It relates to the sephirah of Tiferet (Beauty), which represents harmony and balance between conflicting aspects. Doc Holliday recognizes his own contradictions but also seeks to maintain a sense of integrity within his actions. "It appears my hypocrisy knows no bounds." This line further emphasizes Doc Holliday's awareness of his own contradictions. It reflects the interplay between Gevurah and Tiferet, as he acknowledges his complex nature while continuing to act in accordance with his principles. "All I want is revenge." This quote illustrates Doc Holliday's driven and vengeful nature, as he seeks justice for the wrongs committed against him. It connects with the sephirah of Netzach (Eternity), which represents determination, victory, and the pursuit of justice. Val Kilmer's portrayal of Doc Holliday captures the intricate blend of strength, self-awareness, complexity, and pursuit of justice. While these interpretations offer insights through the lens of Kabbalah and the sephirot, it is important to remember that they are subjective and open to individual interpretation.

There is also a part in the movie where it shows the brothers walking together with Fred and someone says "law and order every time, that's us" but nobody's lips move. Another scene when Johnny looks at Doc and says "you retired to?" he starts to speak before Curly Bill finishes his line. In yet another scene in the bar, when Ike is getting thrown out a glass bottle rolls off the table and a cowboy catches it, and in the exact same scene Virgil goes to grab his pistol but hesitates until the scene plays out a little longer then he grabs it and knocks Ike out. They actually have specific staff on a movie crew whose only job is to make sure those mistakes don't happen. I think they're called "continuity techs" or something like that. It would be quite the task if you ask me. I remember in The Godfather, Michael gets punched in the mouth by the Chief of Police and for the rest of the film you can watch the bruise fade as the scenes are filmed and time goes by. Another good one is in the movie The Abyss, Ed Harris throws his wedding ring into the chemical toilet and then goes back to retrieve it and his left hand is stained blue for the rest of the film. That is some dedication and attention to detail for sure! Dang I love movies!
@RhettyforHistory5 жыл бұрын
Yes, you are correct in that they are called continuity errors. In the old days of actually filming this would have been extremely difficult. Now with some of of the digital capabilities and cgi to cover things up it can really be minimized. I will have to rewatch the Godfather to see what you're talking about. I don't think I've noticed that. Sounds interesting and I bet there vcd are more.

It is all about attention and focus. The human eye is drawn first toward movement, second to bright lights, and third to bold colors. And we are also drawn, quite out of our control, to facial expressions. So 99% of people won't notice all the prop discontinuities and things like that in the periphery. It just goes to show you that even with a professional crew, and shooting out of sequence and from one day to the next, even the pros struggle too.

@@RhettyforHistory -- You're very welcome. Did you ever do a video on or about Young Guns? Cool channel, I subscribed. I have one too, Arizona real estate and Oh, I've been to Tombstone a few times, small but cool town. I/we have a few cool stories about it. All the best.

I appreciate you subscribing. I do love Young Guns as well. I have not done a video on it but I would love to. I did visit the filming location for it in New Mexico. I had no idea that I had even stumbled across it until I started reading the sign and thinking about it afterwards. Of course it was only part of the movie locations but it is the one for Cerillos, NM. I visited the cemetery first and kept thinking this would make the best setting for a western movie. Then I had a separate video and that's where I discovered were in a filming location.

The problems with the windows at the OK Corral were due to the effects of heat on the sugar glass. Arizona Ghostriders Channel discussed this. Some who was there said they had sympathetic breakages and shot over $100,000 of sugar glass. Took around 2 weeks for the scene.

I love this movie. A couple of things I’ve noticed are at the beginning of the movie when they are riding from Tucson to Tombstone the sun is setting in the west but Tombstone is south and they are riding north. The other is when curly Bill is shooting up the town his two 6 shooters shoot a couple of dozen shots without reloading.
@RhettyforHistory5 жыл бұрын
I didn't notice that sun scene. Good eye! I did notice all the shots being made with Curly Bill though. It's sort of hard to determine if the inside discussion is taking place at the same time when curly is outside shooting. It is a lot of shots and it does get your attention.
@sierraslim5 жыл бұрын
RhettyforFun I’ve counted the shots many times and there is no time to reload. I shoot a single action peacemaker for cowboy action shooting and know how long it takes to reload. But still love the movie.

One other thing that I have noticed is that when Wyatt walks out of the pool hall after his brother dies it's raining cats and dogs, but if you look down the street a few yards it is completely dry with no rain coming down.

Absolutely in my top five favorite movies.. I am one of those people that notices mistakes quite often.. but this movie is just so good.. another mistake I thought you would have gotten.. when Wyatt is outside after Morgan's death ..in the pouring rain with the bloody hands ..if you look in the background the rain is only in the area where the scene is being shot..🤔 the other night at around 11:30 I came across this movie maybe 20 minutes in ..and watched it right to the end again.. and one more thing while I'm typing this I'm wearing a t-shirt that says "I'm your huckleberry" on it 😂👍

There's one that you missed. In the saloon scene when Doc and Ringo are insulting each other in Latin, watch Wyatt with the shotgun under the table. In one scene his right arm is grabbing the gun under the table and pointing it at Ringo and Curly Bill. Than as the camera zooms out, his right arm is on top of the table. Than it shifts back again as he cocks the shotgun when Ringo points his gun at Doc.

So there are a fair number of continuity issues but. there are very good reasons why all the lighting and issues and crane. Mostly if you tried to shoot a scene so that the 6-who knows camera set ups where all in the same lighting conditions it would be a logistical nightmare. First you do all your shots and lighting from one direction. Then you switch and do all the shots from the oposit direction. IF they are being shot in the same place even. So you can and usually will have some lighting change issues. Not as noticeable anymore since we fix it all in post.

I noted one inconsistency....not editing wise. When the Earp brothers meet the town marshal, he says that the cowboys are it. Nothing gets done without the cowboys consent. Yet, seconds later, Wyatt walks into the Oriental and takes over the place without consulting with the cowboys. How come they didn't ask for their share on that one?

As history buff here is some falsehoods of this movie. I worked in Tombstone as Virgal and Wyatt and did some research. Fred White was a young man, not the old one they show in the movie. Then, when the actual gunfight happened, Ike did not stuff his head in a water barrel, then after he ran at Wyatt he ran and hid never having fired a shot during it. Then, rumor has it, and you will most like get multiple different answers as to who shot Morgan and where was he shot. According to many historians Morgan could not have suffered the shot he did due to the cowboys were on the ground and Morgan suffered a wound that went for one shoulder to the other on his back area. In looking at that, the most logical shooter was actually Wyatt, when Ike swung him around he accidently shot Morgan. That would explain why the wound was so high. I got a lot of this information for 2 historians in Tombstone, one who has written books about the gunfight, what lead up to it and the aftermath.

These kind of continuity inconsistencies & other "errors" are typical of many great films. John Ford, Orson Welles, John Cassavetes, Martin Scorsese, et al, in their best work, have continuity inconsistencies & "errors" that the general audience doesn't notice because they're caught up in the overall context of the film. Look at the camera dolly-in and go out of focus, then back into focus, for John Wayne's entrance in STAGECOACH. Why did Ford use that shot? It was an "error", but it worked. There are many other "errors" & rules of screen direction broken in STAGECOACH that I could point to. Look at the big camera bump during the dramatic bedroom scene between Bob de Niro & Sharon Stone, where de Niro gently confronts Stone about her over-use of pain pills in CASINO. Big camera bump in the middle of the scene. But that was the shot that worked best for the context of the actors, so Scorsese used it. Some viewers thought it was intentional, & proposed certain theories about the meaning & effectiveness of the bump (!). Ford, Welles, Huston, & other great directors will tell you that a great director is one who presides over happy accidents. They don't want technical perfection for the sake of itself, that isn't why they became film makers. CHEERS
@RhettyforHistory4 жыл бұрын
You're right. These old films didn't catch them as much and they could not fix them with just cgi. Thanks for pointing out some in other films. I think they are interesting to find and generally don't ruin the context of the film. I appreciate you watching.
@ericmalone32134 жыл бұрын
@@RhettyforHistory If you look at the chase scene in Ford's STAGECOACH, all the rules of screen direction are broken. Ford had no concern for "fixing" this, he was happy to break all of those rules. There are some major continuity problems in Scorsese's CAPE FEAR in the bar scene where de Niro is seducing Illeana Douglas. Scorsese used CGI for the fireworks effects in that film, but he had no concern about using it to "fix" the continuity "errors" in the bar scene, which pretty much no one notices, because they're caught up in the overall context of the film. Prior to STAGECOACH, John Ford had made over 100 films. He wasn't worried about technical perfection or rules of screen direction. CHEERS!

Filming on a outdoor set, it’s hard to get the timing right with sun light and so on. Also reshoots of scenes, you try to get every detail back, somethings are forgotten. Either way, amazing pic.
