@x-xPhobia11 ай бұрын
The real tragedy of BPD is its a trauma disorder. Its basically CPTSD but you were young enough when you got it that it developed as your personality. Borderline is full of a cylce of idealization and devaluation. She will idealize something or someone, be hypersensitive to every behavior good and bad, which also includes them having delusions and being psychotically paranoid. For anyone wondering they do feel extreme guilt and shame(this is why she keeps calling) so they then move on to looking for evidence you still are the same person they idealized(you never were the person inside their head so you never meet the criteria) They will try to get as much sympathy from you and it will never be enough, in which case they flip a switch and devalue you as a defense mechanism. They dont really think about what they are saying or doing. Because its a trauma disorder, and their value is tied to you not leaving, but they also need you to be meaningless so it doesn't hurt in case you leave. Her disconnected affect comes from the disassociation. Unfortunately, Tom is right. Even as someone who volunteers with NAMI and takes mental health pretty seriously, I stay far, far away from girls with BPD. Or any cluster b personality disorder lol. The only treatment that works for BPD is Dialectical behavioral therapy. It can take a decade or more. Also yes women with BPD usually do have high body counts, lower impulse control, and hypersexuality is a symptom. Source: i had an abusive ex with BPD and after escaping i read "I hate you, don't leave me" its a book that will explain the behavior of most of the women online.(im half joking lol.)

This is fairly accurate to what a friend of mine who has BPD described to me. I also dealt with the abuse aspect or potential and dynamic with someone who I had dated long distance online as an early teen. Fucked me up for many years and I didn’t even realize until more into adulthood.
@Tayl0r_11 ай бұрын
Also, DBT has been incredibly helpful for my depression/anxiety and ADD (accompanied with a pretty bad case of* rejection sensitive dysphoria - part of it was ironically triggered by that bf I had that I dated long distance as an early teen lol). But it does take a long time to work towards major signs of progress for a lot of folks.
@x-xPhobia11 ай бұрын
@@manicmode Yeah I agree. I wanted to understand my ex and empathize with them. I had a limit for that kind of behavior but she's happy now and doing good after quite a bit of therapy lol. I'm proud of her. There is a poor understanding of it online so I figured I'd lay out a rough framework for people lol however people have to actually want to empathize with her and not just laugh at her. And that's something I can't force them to do. I'm autistic so I get very overwhelmed with that kind of behavior. But some people have the patience and control that I don't. I also have CPTSD so I really do feel bad for her. I can stop myself when I get stuck in that kind of loop. I can catch myself when I think I may have a cognitive distortion or delusion. She really can't. At least not in this state. I wish her well.
@DavidJones-ot8qu11 ай бұрын
DBT is a dogshit therapy, actually. The only way for a BPD person to get help is for them to attack the root causes of their desperation for validation/lack of any sense of self worth, which behavioral therapies entirely fail to touch on. If you’re only better because you avoid ur triggers and leave when you’re triggered, you’re not really “better”

@_Eisley9 ай бұрын
It's true, anyone with bpd can be very hard to handle. I was undiagnosed for years, and good god was I a train wreck. Getting the proper therapy and medication is essential for people with BPD. They really have to control their splitting and take accountability when they are being unreasonable. It can be hard, but it's possible. The person they are with especially needs to call out when they are being unreasonable. Some people with BPD (like Trisha Paytas) never take accountability because they use having BPD as an excuse to continue being crazy, as if it's impossible to change. That drives me insane, and it gives those of us who are managing our BPD a bad name.

I don't think it's wise to assume that many people have been molested or worse, by their family, etc. Especially when they tend to be the paranoid type, or just the compulsive-liar-for-attention type. There are other ways someone can develop a childlike persona for dealing with people, and to be frank, it seems like a strategy for a lot of girls to avoid harsher interactions, as it manipulates people innate desire to protect children (not saying this is consciously thought out, but can be pursued subconsciously).
@thetruth523211 ай бұрын
The childlike voice is generally a manipulation tactic. Past trauma also generally makes past victims more likely to engage in manipulative and abusive behaviour themselves. Bipolar, Narcissistic and borderline people be avoided at all cost.

What do you think about all the guy's who've met girls that said the same things as you all, but it turned out to be BS? So now they're disillusioned & heavy proponents of "they can't be fixed"? Also, therapy usually doesn't work. It has a very low success rate, statistically, but that's across the board, maybe it helps BPD in particular? Meds can suppress symptoms, but so can lobotomising-- if you use very twisted ideas of what it means to "cure" someone.

I feel this girl; I also have BPD and so many other mental disorders due to extreme trauma for many years. It is possible to manage it. But yeah, I don’t blame anyone for not being able to handle and support someone who has trauma and mental disorders, it really is a lot. It’s a lotto deal with ourselves sometimes. It takes a lot of therapy and self awareness in order to live a productive and healthy life. For those of you who also suffer, you’re not a bad person, or “crazy” and it’s possible to he happy 💜 I live a productive and responsible life and it took a loooonnngggg time of being a shit person to heal from trauma and feel like I can be a better person and actually try to be. I hope this girl can recover from whatever caused her to be this way. No one is born with these types of issues, they have to endure bad situations and trauma which rewire the brain drastically. It’s terrible to deal with and terrible for those effected as well.

Yeah, someone with delusions & paranoia isn't an unreliable narrator-- the fact you say this makes me doubt your claims. "No one is born with these types of issues," Genetics is a pseudoscience, but psychology totally isn't, of course. The fact that it only seems to effect women, or at least only manifests in women in that way, hints to it being genetic. If predisposition towards homosexuality is genetic, why wouldn't there be potential for predisposition towards mental things other than sexuality. It's just about determining what mental illnesses can be induced in pretty much everyone, given the 'right' conditions.

@Fauch2ouchBPD is a personality disorder centered around manipulation. The entire purpose of the disorder is for the individual who has the disorder to find whatever validation they can from others because they have absolutely no sense of self worth, which is why they do things like love bombing which is meant to manipulate the other person into giving you validation, and it’s why they try to destroy you once you take the validation away. They feel completely valueless, so they try to remove the thing that makes them feel valueless (or get them to change their mind). NPD and BPD are exceptionally similar disorders, only differing in tactics used to attain validation

Something interesting about BPD is that for about 30-40% of women it goes into “remission” by the time they reach age 30-ish. Makes you wonder if that means people were misdiagnosed with BPD, or if it’s related to hormonal issues that even out for some people as their bodies mature. Unfortunately the same is not true for bipolar (often needs meds for life) and a lot of people with BPD also have bipolar.

Mental illnesses aren't "real" in the sense that someone has or doesn't have them. It's a word we made up to describe a kind of mental state people enter, and different people do in response to different stimulus. Autism in men and women presents very very similarly, but people with BPD are motivated to get a diagnosis of autism for a variety of self-protective reasons, and people in the field are eager to get credit for evening the gender gap
