Rock was ready to quit the game and welcoming the idea of its shutdown, so he might not truly love it there and still lowkey hates himself. What matters most of him now though, is making sure Archy is okay and keeping his past a secret in order to do so.

Yet despite acting like a thug he’s skilled in tech, has a surpringly good understanding of zoology , and is decent at animation/art. Plus it’s clear the rockoon account wasn’t his first since it seems to imply at one point he used to play an archer since he’s able to give archey advice on the class . Meanwhile rockroon and radcoon are mainly designed to act as wrecking balls since his job was to destroy the map so a bow and arrow wouldn’t work , honestly out of all the minions he’s one of the weirdly more sympathetic ones when ya think about context . Doopler mainly just wanted money, his sister wanted status , crowfreak wanted attention (tho demon king just wanted a second chance at life in school so he definitely is the most redeemable)

@@fossilartstudios5878 Many interesting theories there! There's a lot I hope to reveal in time, but I will say that Rocky is still pretty young. He's older than Archy, but younger than Alpha and all of the heroes. Even though Rocky used to hack and cheat often, he was always very good at the game and you're right about him being very smart. He does his research and can give advice to an archer without ever actually being one himself.

@@Deven_Mack He always struck me as a funny guy. Hell, I'm one of the few people that actually LOVES puns for their good timing. It still baffles me you managed to turn "Raccoon" from the original into someone so multilayered and complex in both the show and the game. Other villains didn't get that kind of honor due to their origins as being hackers/trolls on the old TTA website, but you clearly showed your passion in voicing a character meant to be a joke villain. Of course people would love and recognize that!

There are a few things that I enjoy more than puns and wordplay because language can be such an utterly ridiculous constructive of rules that exist "just because". I love not taking it seriously and using Rockoon as a vessel to convey that that. As soon as Rock became a recurring character, I lost interest in him being "crazy" and immediately started layering him into more of a mix between Team Rocket and the Digimon Emperor. Charmingly goofy with a capacity for good buried deep down, but extremely introverted at the same time. All of whom are very insecure, as well. Permanent Team Rocket Trio redemption was something I always wanted to see as a kid and I was intent to humble Rock and challenge his morals in order to turn him into who I always knew he could be. I'm so incredibly grateful that it worked out as it did, and that so many enjoyed the ride. Being able to finally show this side of Rockoon and what he represents is the most creatively rewarding and emotionally therapeutic thing I've ever done.

Dammit Chris, I don't know what it is about this series that made me come back and binge it after almost 10 years but, somehow you made a story that transcends time itself in an Era of imperfect technology (especially for animation which, props, you made something that can hold its own against modern cgi... for the most part at least) to bring a tale of what it means to be human to life. I remember when TOME was still in progress, unfinished, making myself and many others wait for that next installment but, man oh man, you spearheaded something that not only trumps but to this day destroys the million dollar, multi-writer, Hollywood formula that has infected and stupefied pretty much the world over. I know my comment is one in a million and it's unlikely you'll even read it but just know you and your associates at the time had made something phenomenal. And considering some of the huge names and organizations that played their part I'd think it's safe to say you probably know all of this. In short, thank you for making something that had so much impact for not just me but I'm sure many, many others. (Note: I know I probably made a lot of rambling grammatical errors but, I don't care. I just love this series) Hell, I still tear up a little on the last few episodes. As someone who has practiced suppressing my emotions to the point that they almost only show during full-on mental breakdowns, I personally congratulate you all. P.s. my favorite characters are Nylocke and His Majesty the Squire (kirb).

Like bro talk about a punch in the gut, I can remember watching this in 7th grade, and now we are here, literally almost 9 years later of me watching and 11 after it first started, so much has changed, the stories still come out, slowly but I like it that way, it's quality on multiple levels, the amount of care you feel for these characters is unreal, cause despite all the flashy and amazing artwork that's been created over the years, you can see the characters are still humans with their own issues, Rockcoon here is suffering from his actions in the past and he will never forget what he did to legit hurt people, but he keeps a straight face for the ever so anxious yet lovable Archy, as he wants to be a role model for the kid, a good one so that he doesn't end up like he did in the past, all in all yeah this short video is amazing, thanks Chris, Devin, anyone who helped make this and all of tome, I salute you

Thank you for the very kind words! I'm so glad to hear this connected in the way it did. The opportunity to have Rockoon "grow up" along with much of the audience has been a very special gift for me. Rock is definitely seeing elements of himself in Archy and trying his absolute best to be the friend he wished he had for himself. Bitterness and jealousy through isolation had consumed him in the past, overwhelming the positive traits I always tried to hint that he had within him. Perhaps it's fitting for the raccoon to always be so "masked" emotionally. For all it's worth though, he's unfortunately still nowhere near happy and feels very alone. The path he's on now certainly isn't an easy one, but hopefully it will get him closer to finally being at peace with himself and his place in the world.

I feel like it was only yesterday that I was 11 years younger and I was watching this series. This is quite literally an important childhood experience for me, up there with other popular cartoons that I highly enjoyed. I haven't seen anyone do what TOME did since then, both in story and in animation style. The mixture of simple sprite-like animations, mixed with detailed animations for important things like emotions, fight scenes, etc. I hope that sometime in the near or far future that a VR game is released which is based on TOME in some way, even if it's just the landscape.

POSSIBLE SPOILERS So I just thought of something regarding Rocky saying “…hanging out every day for two months.” It is possible that TOME was able to not end up getting shut down after the series ended since in the ending bit after the big showdown between Rubirules and Alpha takes place a week after, Rocky lends out a hand to Archy and they start hanging out for real well implied at least. Either Giga ended up looking the other way or convinced the government to which allowed the Netkings to keep the game servers up and running for TOME. OR another theory is that this could be an unofficial underground server built by the dedicated players of TOME and it has been running for two months to keep the game going hence why the environment looks different in the short since it’s heavily implied to be taking place in the Lavendera region. Perhaps every single OG character or player from TOME, aside from Rubirules, Neomutant, and a few other of the hackers from D-BUG, got invited to join the server to keep TOME alive and kicking even if the Netkings have to keep their word with the aftermath outcome that Giga alluded to when he said that he must do his job to keep the people of the public safe since government secrets got exposed and actual lives were harmed. ORRRR I’m just spending too much time on these theories XD

Archy's "here, or in real life" isn't meant to imply they've met in person. It's more so that he doesn't have any other friends. Rockoon is still a complete mystery to Archy beyond "He's really funny and smart and super nice to me for some reason." In the grander scheme, I suppose a lot of things are possible but, please keep in mind that this particular story was written entirely by me. The corporate/government conspiracy, technological and science fiction elements of TOME are usually far very removed from the material I write. I'm interested in telling stories about the human element. Characters growing and learning about themselves and how the "masks" people wear online can impact that for better, or for worse.

I'm also the type to always figure out theories for stuff based on all different kinds of elements and how they all interact and connect with one another, hence why I threw out those theories out there in the first place. After all, the theories don't really matter at the end of the day anyway since I'm just a fan and not at all working on the brand overall. All things considered, I hope there are more stories like these with different characters someday in the future cause that would be a great opportunity to give other characters more development than what they got in the show originally.

Can't understate how much I liked this series. Nothing to add to this video in particular but might as well give my own experience for the algorythm: Being me I don't know EXACTLY where I started on this series. I think it was like part 70~ish of TTA coming out was my first encounter. From there I went all the way to part 1 and by the time my adolescent reading speed got up to date we were just 2 fully animated parts from completion. I got sad to see it go, got introduced to Rina Chan by it, got excited for the remake, and waited baited breath until suddenly almost half the episodes of the remake were released before I even knew it was releasing. Yet another binge and then waiting on each episode. This was back when I had a crunchyroll account, and I was surprised at the official TOME site working better for me than a much more expensive production. Since then, I've mostly lurked on the game's development before buying it. Now here we have another bite of the good stuff, I crave more but know it might be poison. It's not a very interesting story, but I hope I you enjoyed it.

For no known reason, and seemingly at completely random… The two Rockoons minds touch each other. Memories fill their head, memories that aren’t their own and yet still feel so familiar. TOME’s Rockoon gets to take a weird kind of heart that, maybe, he can be the positive role model Archy thinks he is in spite of his flaws. But ‘2021 TOME’S Rockoon?’ Due to having zero context for the more advanced systems in place in the old series, as well as the falling out with his old friend… He may have zero context, but for that brief moment, he feels his AU selves guilt… And a part of him… It can’t help but wonder… “What could have been?” ….. He doesn’t like that the alternatives ‘scare him.’

Its been years and he still hasn't dealt with it...... How has he avoided people recognizing him? or saying that he was on the wrong side of the law? Rock......You can't keep running from this. Archy is going to find out sooner or later. I'm sure he'll still want to be your friend, but the longer you wait the more it will blow up. Archy isn't the type of guy to leave his friends behind. your not a bad guy Rock you just made some bad choices.

The Archy situation is tricky. His confidence is so low and his anxiety is so high, he already questions why someone like Rock would hang around him at all... It seems pretty likely that he doesn't have other friends. Rock has definitely thought a lot about being recognized by others. He's a planner who never stops thinking...

Thanks so much, LaKira! I'm really glad you enjoyed this! Rock is a character with 11 years of history, but I wrote this particular short to be watchable for people who'd never seen him before. He's a former hacker/troll who eventually grew into what he is now after a series of poor decisions. You can see his origins in the TOME webseries, where he was a recurring guest villain, though I wasn't nearly as involved with his writing in episode 1.
