Womens football as a main feature is fine, it's a lot of extra content leagues, players etc. The problem is there is so far not a single screenshot of the match day graphics, animations and they have removed so many things. The UI looks shit, the interface looks like it's being minimalist for phone and console control

The trailer looks like a betting advert and the screenshots on steam make it look unbelievably simplified. I'm not hyped in the slightest for this years game. I'm nearly 40 and I've been playing this game in one form/name or another since I was 8 years old.... I've bought/had every single version of this game since 1992 and this might be the first time I don't buy an installment. It genuinely makes me a bit sad to think I might not buy it this year, the lack of anything of any substance from the devs this close to launch is a massive red flag. Hopefully what they do show/announce in the near future blows us all away but I'm not confident.

For me theres been some years that were worse than others but for the most part ive enjoyed it every season in one way or another. I much prefer this approach theyve taken in not showing things too early but either way fundamentally i dont think they can ruin the game. If the match engine is crap and buggy i'll just play on 2d, hell id take text only haha so yeah im curious what makes you worry that the game will be so bad that it will be fundamentally worse than every season you played before. @@davidsellers8644 Believe it or not I have been playing it for that long, the first version I ever had was on the Amiga 🤣. I had that and a hand full of games for it and I think it's obvious which I spent the most time playing. I don't think you're having a go and asking questions, especially on the internet, seems to be taken as immediate confrontation and I don't think that is your intention at all. So... the best way I can put it is this, it might not make sense but I'll give it a go. The game has changed massively over the years, and I don't think change is bad btw, but it's evolved into a complete game that we've just had in FM24. Now they seem to be stripping the game back and from the few screenshots and news that's come out it seems like we're going backwards, even with the new engine than going forwards. Losing features isn't a good look, neither is showing/telling us nothing about something that they expect us to pre-order, just because we do it every year. I don't think they'll ruin the game but from everything I've seen it looks like they are gearing it towards consoles rather than PC, I hope I'm proven wrong and I love the game as I always have but I just get a bad feeling about it. I dont have any problems paying for a product that I get that much time and enjoyment out of. I know what you mean about console driven in terms of the UI but I'd also say that I havent used the default skin in years as soon as other skins become available so how it looks is of no relevance really as someone will make it look better. The only feature ive seen dropped is international management. Everything else is stuff that has no point being in the game or i never use and clearly not many other people do as well or they wouldnt have removed it.

The interface is so incredibly dull its a reflection of Miles Jacobson. Miles holds the games back now, he's FMs version of Vince McMahon. Google images, FA Premier League Manager 99 for the PC and look how amazing the interface was in comparison.

The new ui looks too simple for me, never thought I would say that. The old one was very imposing to get into which is why it took me 3 attempts after downloading and deleting the game before actually getting into it, but after understanding it I totally understood why it was that way. The amount of data that was just one click away seems to be way reduced in the new version. Also the player profile screen being more of a pop-up and not taking up the full screen just seems like a weird decision, it seems awfully console biased and although I can understand them wanting to pant to that audience, I still believe their biggest fans and their most hardcore players will always be on pc. Just look at the skins scene, you will never get that stuff on console on that scale.

It's clear to me at least that the development of the game is a disaster behind the scenes. The delays, the lack of anything in the roadmap, the features they've stripped out (shouts, create-a-club and more) - nothing is working, the match engine almost certainly isn't functional. They've changed the graphics engine, launched on console, added women's football - way too much for an annual series with immovable deadlines, and the devs are swamped. Also the things they have changed don't look good. I feel sorry for SI's devs, but someone high up made a big mistake. I hope I'm wrong, but I think this might go horribly wrong.

I feel every AI generated image would be too much memory to transport into the main game (as only certain current players have images). They would also need a provider for AI making imagery which could be costly. They may also be trying to distinguish new-gens from current players to maintain the "new-gen authenticity".

The ability to track real life would be good. For example injuries, bust ups, transfers (that aren’t related to your team), manager sackings. More options around sponsorship would be good too. Pitch side sponsors, shirt, stadium names, training grounds. Individual player sponsorship deals would be nice to see too (messi style where a club can do a deal with a player and a company).

I must say i hate the new design for fm25. From the screenshots it looks like a poorly made mobile game. That block-style design is awful. SI's marketing strategy has been a shambles. I'm near certain that the reason why we've not seen anything yet, is because the match engine still looks wonky and they need more time to fix it. Fair enough if so, but the longer they make players wait to give us a proper look at matches in action, the higher expectations will be and a greater level of risk. An easy win for SI would be to unveil the newgen faces to showcase the graphical upgrade of moving to Unity.

I appreciate you encouraging people not to preorder even though it would work out good for you if people did. On topic of the game though; I feel most of the screenshots look nice. Not having seen any gameplay less than 2 months out for a game that's have had an overhaul like this makes me feel anxious though. It doesn't help that their roadmap isn't even a roadmap. It shows a bunch of topics, just one date and not even a rough timeline for the others. I dearly hope they'll blow us away when they do start revealing stuff, but I'm not feeling like they will now.

The one thing I would like is to make a football manager collection from EA sports where you could buy and play all past football managers with their year database and the choise to switch to whatever year's database you would like, for example fm07 with 25 database and fm25 with 07 database etc this would be fantastic!!!! this would make older fans to play the game again and again with older more simple menu and skins, it would be a dream come true, EA if you listen to me it would be the marvel of the marvels.

My guess is that the customization of the player profile will be by right clicking the box - this will probably allow console users to use some button to do customization as well

Another Championship Manager 4? My time with SiGames lasted from Championship Manager 93 through to FM2020 which apparently I only played for 404 hours, 26 years is a long time & probably the only studio my relationship was longer with was Codemasters which started in the mid to late 80s & ended the minute they sold up to EA. I have been tempted to return to the world of FM, but I very much doubt I would pre order based on no information, I do remember CM4 & the giant beta test that ended up being.

Same here, I still ended up buying every version but pretty much haven't played the last 2. Sometimes I watch CM 01/02 playalongs on here and it looks so much more fun. Feels more like a chore playing the latest versions.

I remember the shift from Championship Manager to Football Manager and that was a struggle to comprehend. This has a similar feel to it, humans don't like change. But I am concerned this is heading toward the next gen of console players rather than oldschool PC gamers.

I'm an original player from the Amiga days, used to come in from work at midnight and sit up until 8am playing CM93. I enjoyed the game almost every year (not CM4 - that was a miss) but I sort of lost interest around FM16 or 17. Hours played went from thousands on FM12 to less than 20 on FM20, and only 35 minutes on FM21. Recently I've tried it on Game Pass or when it has turned up free on Epic and just haven't enjoyed it. I was hoping the new UI would be modern, vibrant and animated, with chill background music. I know they are screenshots, but it still seems like it's stuck in the past with a dated design aesthetic. I do put a lot of value in how the 3D graphics engine looks and animates (I know, many say they only play on 2D and it's all about the gameplay). But if this is the evolution of their UI, then I'm not overly confident that the currently-top secret match graphics will be the giant leap forward that would bring me back. I'm okay with them stripping features since I don't think I ever used the ones they are taking out, and I found touchline shouts to be arcane. But it seems like they really need a new broom in there with some fresh ideas.

FM is my heart-space, and I will always buy and support SI making the game. I do believe that SI strives to make the best game possible, while still keeping the spirit of spreadsheets alive. I will buy FM25, even if I don't really will play it. I like FM24, it's my favourite FM so far. I might play FM24 for the next year, while trying out FM25, but I'm really waiting for FM26. I think FM25 will be a "Beta-test" for the future. I don't think it will be near as good as FM24, but FM25 will be the first installment for a future of FM that can get 100 times better. FM25 will start that journey, and I will always support that process and buy the game. It's the best support that I can give as a fan. Let's see what the future brings, I'm looking forward to the leap in possibilities :)

My real worry (on top of alot of the other worries people have raised) is this feels like a game made for console or even possibly mobile. Now still very very early and they could dissuade my worries but if this is the route they are going down think alot of people will be out very very quickly.

I'm still on 21, was considering 25, but I think I'll wait for 26. I'm still busy with my 21 team and not quite finished with it yet. I'll keep an eye on FM25 to see what people are saying about it, but it sounds like I'm probably better off just waiting one more year to upgrade.

Game developer here: I think moving to Unity is a mistake. Unity has had to do several rounds of layoffs in the last few years, and has been struggling financially. Compounding this is the surge of popularity of Godot. A similar game engine which is open source. If they wanted to future proof the game engine, Godot was the call as it will always be maintained by volunteers and contributors, and never steered (or worse bankrupted) by its financial performance. I hope it all works out, because I respect SI for even attempting to move such a well established game to a new engine in the first place.

Yeah but they decided to move to Unity about 4-5 years ago. So it’s been in development for a while. Godot for 3D is absolutely awful. There is no way you can make a good match engine in godot. I’m surprised they didn’t choose Unreal. It’s the best engine for 3D and they already use C++ at SI so they have some experience and people for that.

As hard as it is at the moment, I'm keeping the faith and trying to be positive and glass half full! They haven't let us down yet, each year the game arguably improves so until I see otherwise (or see anything at all!) I still believe they'll come up with a good game as they always do. I know you will still probably get this game as a content creator and others who are big fans of the franchise will still probably pay for it. However, given there are easily accessible and free databases for the new season, I don't see any need to buy FM25 if I can use FM24 and play with the updated transfers/clubs/divisions. I'll be honest, it's surprising that FM still sells given towards the end of the season the game almost always becomes free to download from Epic Games Store and most years there's an updated database.

Like any game, I would rather a delay than a hastily cobbled buggy mess being released. I've noticed on the screenshots, there's very little to see at a glance how a player is training, or set personal training. As someone who does youth only saves, that's kind of important.

I get football manager every near. I pre-order to get access to the early-access. I do this because I've enjoyed every iteration of FM since 06. I'm not pre-ordering this FM before I see something concrete that makes it look like a good game. They've harped on about this being "a new era of FM", yet they are failing to shout about WHY it is a new era. Why is this a better game than FM24? They're not telling us because they don't believe it. I'm under the impression they're still deep in developing this game and it's no way near ready. They're going to release this game half-baked. What a shame.
