tomhess.net/Pi... Learn and master these five killer open-string metal guitar licks. They sound awesome and super aggressive! Here’s exactly what we’ll cover in this guitar lesson [...]
The first open-string metal lick sounds killer because it’s syncopated - we accent notes off the beat instead of on the beat - giving this metal lick an aggressive sound!
The second open-string metal riff is a combination of Directional Picking and pull offs. The difference in tone between the picked notes and the legato creates a machine gun type metal sound.
The third lick is a heavily palm-muted open-string riff that sounds tight when played tight!
The fourth guitar lick is a repeating pattern outlining a Dm arpeggio on a single string.
The last open string lick is the heaviest and most aggressive one. It has heavy palm muting and syncopation in the 3+3+2+2+2+2+2 patterns. It’s in the 5th mode of the harmonic minor scale (aka Phrygian Dominant mode)
These are pretty quick and sound killer.
