Phil Waddingham here, I built a rig with an on-board ss bodied pump 1.2 Kw 61lt/PM flow rate and Adey magnaclean unit. It takes no prisoners and primes the pumphead at source so flushing is a breeze as I isolate the return and pump out to drain each rad in turn. What a monster!

I use both when I do a flush. This way it uses less water as the returning water is filtered before its returned to the power flushing machine. Also I find it good practice to rap a rag or cloth around the top of the agitator, this helps to stop scratching the radiator. Also following Adey instructions its better to have only a little water in the radiator say 20% that way all the power of the flush hits the sludge at the bottom of the rad. I used to take all the rads off but this way even the pipework is flushed as well and it uses a lot lot less water. Great vid thanks and thanks for the info on different inhibitors, I never knew that
@darrencahill51593 жыл бұрын
Defo better to flush along bottom of rad first, as you say 👍 Then fill to 50% to help wash out and get any flakes further up the rad. Or agitate to knock them off. Wouldn't want to agitate rads on microbore system though, to avoid any lumps blocking pipework. These rads are taken outside and hosed out, or connected to magnacleanse with pump attached on flying-lead, or flush machine.

Excellent I generally just magnacleanse the system. If I have to use my powerflush I use it in conjunction with the heating elements built into the Norstrom powerflush. If particularly bad the magnacleanse is used in conjunction with the powerflush. Excellent tutorial Derek 👊👌

Love these vids been in the game a long time like Derek and seen a lot of changes in the heating industry.......I usually install my Magnacleans in series with my kamco machine and run the system water through my kit and fire the boiler up no hotter than 40 degrees ..... cuts the time down and the water wastage ....... system gets the best of both worlds and then fit the new filter were i cut in too connect my machine .....it’s worked for me for years and the system usually squeaky clean ...👌

Thanks for the info and review, I have the MagnaCleanse and just to say I built a addon where I can put pumps into the system to move the water in the event of a failed boiler or when a new boiler was being installed and I wanted it to be perfectly clean prior to connecting, it worked well for me. I like the simplicity of the MagnaCleanse.

On a bad system I just make sure I empty the chambers after every 2 radiators so nothing gets past to the new boiler. Thanks for the video.

Merv Jones-Owen. Good Video as always Mr Tomkat. My Method, Remove the F&E and wash clean, remove all the the radiators and take outside, remove valve tails and connect 1/2MI to the radiators and Cold mains pressure clean through every radiator at every entry point, replace radiators and then Magnacleanse the boiler, pump, pipework, etc with X800. Job Done.

have you tried 'Thoroughflush' system, its basically what you do, but without removing rads, & having a switch on a diverter to change direction of mains flow, so you can flush each individual rad without moving connection, it has a dump port integral to diverter. It cuts time for flushing a 3 bed house to about 3 hours, and no spilage or floods. still have to do f&e tank mind !

I’ve got a magnacleanse. I really rate it for smaller properties and systems with a medium level of contamination. But for really bad systems I don’t think you can beat a powerflushing machine. I came across an issue I’ve not had before when using my adey a while back. I like to give the system a flush under mains at the end. However I think the boiler must have had a non return valve on the flow. External filling loop on the return. When I opened the drain valve in the magclean hose and opened the filling loop, nothing happened. I couldn’t fill the system because as soon as I shut the tap on the filter to divert the flow out of the drain hose, it killed the circulation. Only time it’s ever happened. Apart from that my magnacleanse has paid for itself many times over by now.

I've got the Magnacleanse, and for the first few times I was learning ! Learning how to connect easily and not connect every job in a differant way, thus slowing the job down in a less efficient way. Although... differant system types, will require a different connection set up. But say for combi? I make sure try to connect at same point on system? Normally under boiler, so i can remove Magna. And fit a magnetic filter in its place. I'm still not a believer that Cleanser is great on it's own? But many fitters say they swear by it. It's just how the heck can all dirt and iron oxide be removed when there's no pump? Yeh, the dirt in water will be cleaned but what about settled dirt?
@nickmac80782 жыл бұрын
Magnaclean for service and repair. Powerflush for ALL NEW instals onto existing systems. Powerflush has greater flow velocity NOT EXCESSIVE PRESSURE TO BURST pipes to shift more system dirt, including non magnetic contaminants. Combined with mags, or adapted for use with you Magnaclense, invest in your business and customer service quality and get both, Norstorm Pro flush the best Iv had up-to now, but the magnaclense is better coupled with it than the magmaster Iv got fitted.

Another top video 👍 I personally like the magnacleanse just because it’s light quick to use and cheaper to buy. BUT it’s no where near as effective of flushing the system as a powerflush machine. And you can’t remove blockages in pipe work with a magnacleanse but you can 9/10 times with a powerflush . I recently flushed a large system 16 rads but with 28 mm flow and return ( we converted it from traditional to a combi ) used the magnacleanse and it did catch a lot of the magnatite but caused me a blockage on a 10 mm bath towel rad😔 . I then powerflushed and the amount of gunk that was lying in the pipes was unbelievable but I couldn’t remove the towel rad blockage. I’ve flushed every rad. Flushed the entire circuit with all rads off except the blocked one. I’ve even put the machine on the rad tails of the blocked rad and still no joy. Tried finding the blockage with a thermal camera no joy. Have left some x400 in for a few weeks see if that works 😩 any suggestions ??? I’ve thought of possibly poking some soldier down the return as that’s the blocked one ☝️ or even wet n dry vac it ? I’m even thinking of putting my foot pump via an adapter through the valve and pumping it up and hoping for the best 😂 I don’t think re pipping is an option as the pipes are going into the walls 😒 any advice would be much appreciated thanks 🙏 your No 1 fan 😁
@tomkatgastraining3 жыл бұрын
It would be easier and quicker to replace the pipe going to the rad if you can. In the past I have connected a hose pipe onto the rad valves and blasted the magnetite back into the main flow and return when I can’t replace the pipe. Who invented 10mm pipe for heating 🤣👍🏻
@merv153573 жыл бұрын
i've had the same problem with Microbore, i solved it by only having the effected radiator on and agitating the return tee of the rad's pipework where it connects to the main run pipework if you can get to it.

if you are going to replace the boiler AND the radiators do you still need to do one of these cleans ? - will not most of the sludge in the system be in the removed radiators, boiler & drained water making a flush/cleanse un-necessary ?

We had a brand new Worcester Greenstar boiler installed about a year and a half ago and magnacleanse was on our quote.. fast forward to now and we had a worcester engineer come out due to a loud grinding noise whenever we shut off the hot tap and the heat was no longer consistent, would go hot then cold very quickly. The engineer said he'd had to replace a part due to contaminated water and sludge.. it was way way off passing their water tests.. and the engineers exact words were 'whoever installed your boiler didn't flush the system.. ' so my question is.. for any professionals in the know... do we pay hundreds to get the system flushed or should we go back to the installer after a year and a half? And will it have been damaging our brand new boiler all this time? Thanks.

Common issue with the Magnaclean Prof 2 model is that the canister won't detach from the valves. If can’t access lid and bottom plug of cannister to clean (due to being installed in limited access areas) or if one of 2 valves need replaced, you have to change the cannister and both valves. The cost of replacement valves and cannister exceed the cost of a completely new unit. In other words, if you can’t get into the cannister in situ to clean or either of the 2 valves need replaced, you need to replace the whole unit!!!!!! Adey will not provide parts free of charge under their 10-year guarantee unless you have registered within 30 days!!

I had both system and eventually I sold Kamco CF 90. the main difference of and Magnacleanse is the Circulation Pump, but if you use the mains water as the circulation pump for Magnacleanse, I don't know there is any diffenrence. The low rate? when they all use mains water, what is difference? The pressure? could be no difference, some time the mains is high pressure than kamco pump. another difference is Magnacleanse could be operate with boiler running and the Kamco CF90 could be problem manufacturer will not recommend it.

A power flush takes twice as long as a magnacleanse . Most guys I know charge about £400 for a magnacleanse
@johnward50063 жыл бұрын
Always use both. The magnacleanes will clearly show you the degree of contamination, and impresses and educates the customer, it also provides the customer with reassurance its money well spent. Pre-dosing is another effective method and time saver. As for cleaning chemicals, FX2 or similar for the worst (but NOT Aliminium!) X800 or similar for your average fouling. MC3 or similar for new or lightly soiled. Inhibitors like cleaners, you get what you pay for! You cant put in too much, more is best. Been using Kamco of machines for over 20 years and the original magnacleanse since it came on the market and it's still works just as well! An investment of less than £1500 in today's money the financial return is a no brainer! But hey ho, this is only my opinion based on my experience, other opinions are available. As Tom says, it's not that simple, but making the effort raises the industries profile. Sorry if iv'e waffles a bit, I"m reknowed for it!

Thank you Derek, great video. I would like to add that as I understand this, the Magnacleanse in only an additional component. As explained BS7593:2019 document Note 3 page 7, this is an example of a device that when added to any of the accepted methods of cleaning the system (Powerflushing, Mains Pressure clean and flush, clean and flush using gravity) improve the cleaning process in time and effectivenes. But using the Magnacleanse just alone without following the process exclained for the accepted cleaning methods would not be a satisfactory. In my opinion it is faster to clean a system using a powerflushing machine, than if I used a Magnacleanse to assist in cleaning a system following the described cleaning procedure explained in this document for Main Pressure clean and flush, or the Flush using gravity.
