Surge XT is free and it's by far my favorite VST. It has so many cool sounds and even ambient sounds. They update it daily and I could sit for hours and hours playing with it. Try it guys! It's worth it!

Subscribed. I so enjoy getting lost in the joy of creating ambients. Manually adjusting dials as an instrument as opposed to pre programming and arranging on a DAW. It has its place , but it is so different the feeling of creating and flowing. Cheers man

I've been slowly learning things about what you are showing, and I love this whole topic, but I can't help but mention: You are giving me huge Tony Anderson vibes, especially with the felt upright and how you play it! Anyway, love Valhalla Supermassive and it sucks me in for hours playing with the super long decays.

It's funny you mentioned Nova in the whatever you had section. I used Ableton intro for two years, and intro doesn't have EQ 8, the 'stock' EQ in the Ableton tutorials. I ended up using nova as my primary EQ for most of that time, and it's wonderful. Four bands with low and high cuts, the dynamic settings are intuitive and useful. I will warn that it is set to gain main by default so if you are aggressively high passing your hihats it will crank the volume. That fooled me a number of times. But from my experience; Nova is great. But it's also what I had, and making music is more important than new stuff even if thst stuff is free.

I'm not sure it was already a thing at the time of this video, but there is now a free Fabfilter Pro-Q3 alternative : ZL Equalizer from ZL Audio. It offers 16 bands, several filter types and stereo modes, and each band can be dynamic with adjustable threshold, attack and release. All that with a GUI as intuitive as (and obviously inspired by) Pro-Q3.

Nice to see Bubbler getting some love! I've been using that for years but you hardly ever see it featured in videos like this. I usually add some octaves and reverse with guitar, it's like a free Microcosm pedal. Have to say I was expecting more than just two plugins, but there's some lovely examples here. Emergence is another great free granular plugin, there's Deelay, Stone Voices Ambient Reverb, even Valhalla have a few more free ones that nobody seems to look at. Surely Paulstretch is an obligatory mention too? 😅

Other awesome free stuff that’s great for ambient music: -Deelay by Sixth Sample (can’t suggest this one enough, great alt for Echo Boy) -Magic Dice by Baby Audio (also go ahead and get the free Pitch Drift and Magic Switch) -Spitfire LABS series -MINIMA (forget the company name but it’s like LABS) -U-HE has free synths and I think a free reverb as well -Starlight by Chaos Audio (shimmer verb)

This is the first video of yours that I've seen (the first that YT recommended to me) and I've subscribed immediately. Beautiful presentation, and excellent examples. And I agree about Valhalla Supermassive! I don't know if it is YT compression or what, but your felt piano coming through my headphones, has a distinct thump at the start of each note/chord.

Valhalla Supermassive should be a paid plugin so the developer at Valhalla giving it for free is a very kind gesture, considering how everyone loves their plugins and would buy it anyway. 💥 Can you help me with this ? I use electronic pianos, but they sound very plastic and flat. In the real world, an acoustic piano sound is captured by using microphones over them, and to give a warm tone, we place other microphones nearby, to capture the room acoustic and even the instrument distance is essential. Is there any VST plugin to simulate placement of the microfones on the ambient ? I was thinking about putting 2 mics near my speakers, just to capture the room reflections and add to the output sound, because it's not so simple as adding a reverb to the piano channel. Any tips ? Thanks in advance. 🎉❤❤
