My bass sank in a pretty similar way in one the f areas. Sadly where I live there is none contrabass luthiers to help and though I normally fix my things by myself in this occasion I don't have the tools and infraestructure to open and put everything back together.😢

One stupid question. Why most of strings instruments are finished so they will look antique? Part of the tradition? This is coming from an amateur guitar player who often sees guitars age gracefully without being finished to the point that they look old. And is it heating up the glue will make the process of opening up the instrument easier? Will it compromise the finish? Sorry for the trouble. Thank you for the time.

Thanks for the video. I enjoyed watching it immensely. I haven't seen this method before. I was aware of the plaster method, also for double basses. I presume the bass bar will be planed down and replaced completely in a later step?
