good ideas to have fun w bumps. I would add in another layer, how to actually ride them in the fall line. I note that when you rode the fall line, you made turns about 4x as large as the bumps. that means your not really articulating around the bumps, your just running into them. new snowboards with rocker are very capable of very quick turns, and you have to be able to turn the board while keeping your movement overall in the fall line. I would practice this a lot, making short short full turns on a blue run, just getting it so I could keep my lower body working like a pendulum under my torso. once you can make turns in the short size needed to get through bumps, then you can try it in moguls. very few snowboarders really know how to make functional short turns on the fall line, but that is what makes for powerful bump riding. it also does good things for your overall riding. in big picture, 2 kinds of turns, short, where lower body pivots under stable upper body, and longer turns where the upper body is going more from side to side. if you can do either at will, even both at the same time, (micro adjustment of arc of board within a larger turn) hen you have full skill and control of your movement. just sharing here, not trying to be difficult. been riding since 86, taught for well over a decade.

pro tip (not a pro): Try to go the least perpendicular to the hill as possible because going perpendicular requires a strong edge hold which is not often possible especially when the moguls are icy, large and steep. Washing speed is hard but if you scope your path well usually you can find a moderately gnarly spot to try and stop or slow down. Aka find the powder, you're not a skier.

Outstanding topic! Moguls are super-fun once you have them figured out. My personal favorite are Volkswagen sized on a really steep pitch. It's like Q-Bert in real life;) For learning, get into a mogul field map out two or three turns. Take them slow and just do the turns you planned. Stop > Rinse > Repeat. You'll start recognizing patterns for turns and places where you can "shoot the gap." Riding moguls will GREATLY improve your snowboarding fundamentals and thus all aspects of your riding. It also gives you something fun to do besides the park when you are in between storms....

@nicholasturczyn59075 жыл бұрын
Moguls are great, and are one of the best ways to build up so many of your riding techniques: edge control, turn initiation, seeing-creating-linking lines, learning all the same things switch... and as you progress you can increase your speed and keep working on them. If you want to ride a proper run full of moguls, the most important thing is to work on managing your speed so that you can continue to link toeside and heelside turns down the fall line. As you learn and progress continue to crank up the speed. Very few people can ride moguls fast, for an extended period of time, directly down the fall line, doing airs so don't get frustrated as this takes tons of time and practice.

@mikegriffin83335 жыл бұрын
I love riding moguls. There's no better feeling than blowing by a skiier in a mogul field. Fresh are a lot more forgiving and easier than icy ones but still fun overall. If you're stuck on a trail with moguls and are unsure, I've found there are often lines at angles(about 45°) that are easy to navigate in between - you'll still need to point the board down hill to get around. Riding over them and slowing down/ turning on their backside will help set you up for the next turn while cutting speed, if you need to. Keep the knees bent and go with the flow. Try to pick a line before you start and look a few moguls ahead while you're riding to see what's coming and set yourself up. There are boards that I prefer on moguls than others.. don't really care for the Smokin' Awesym or Gnu Rider's Choice on them but really like the Burton Custom and the Lago Open Road is by far my favorite. It just treats moguls like it's bitch. I actually bought a second Open Road in a 156 because it was so much fun riding them on the 160.

You can definitely rack up a lot of injuries over a snowboarding career and it always amazes me what people are willing to over come to ride a piece of wood down a snowy slope.
