@rpm4565 I was at that concert!!!!Most magical musical night of my life!! Tommy played 12 Bar Blues on a 35? Gibson as a tribute to a fan that passed away! And Tommy is sooo humble and confident...he always lets the other guitar player shine! My favorite guitar...bar NONE!! And bless Mike!

This was not a touring show but a one-off put together at the Bass Hall in Fort Worth by Mike Cotham (RIP). It was a triple bill with Rhett Butler, Monte Montgomery, and Tommy Emmanuel, three of the best guitarists you'll ever hear. Most perfect night of music any guitar lover could have. Both Rhett and Monte took full advantage of the big audience opportunity and knocked their socks off. Tommy held his own of course and had a ball sharing the stage with good players. Bless you, Mike.

Its criminal there isn't more subscribers. Shows youtube is rigged. There are guys who only know one scale and 5 chords with way more followers. Why?

@myself: Just realized how stupid my comment was. This post is shown as from Austin, so it's obviously not the FW show I referred to. D'oh. Oh well, still wonderful players in any venue. Great joy in that playing.

Rhett's forte is his two handed tapping, which doesn't lend itself to much improv. His finger style is fine and beautiful here as a foundation for Tommy's improvisation, but it doesn't showcase his talent well. But beautiful to watch two pros enjoying their joy of playing. Wish artists and venues would recognize that allowing such taping expands their audience and income. See Tommy or Rhett whenever you have a chance. Great performers and great guys.

I must disagree with the point that two handed tapping doesn't lend itself much to improv. This is refuted by Stanley Jordan, as well as Rhett Butler's own youtube videos. (Also, compare improvisational playing with two hands on piano.) Finger style guitar is much less suited to improv -- you're playing the bass and melody, but they're tied to the same hand. (In this video, Rhett does improvisational runs in periods in which he breaks out of bass/melody playing.)
