Tommy is so generous. Here he is bringing another phenomenal guitarist to the forefront and showing him off. Note how he completely drops out when he says for Emil to take the solo. He immediately recognizes that Emil is still comping chords, so he completely stops playing so that viewers are certain that all the notes are coming from Emil.

Someone else posted in another video that we are living in a great time. When I first moved to the LA area I was almost broke, looking for gigs and used to see Joe Pass with Herb Ellis in a club in the valley. This video reminds me of those days. I would nurse a glass of wine for four hours just to hear those two giants of jazz. Now I just go to KZbin.

If you only listen to one type of music or style you miss out on whats is out there also this song has been covered by many musicians and each one bring a different flavor, The Vocal version I liked was used in the movie V for Vendetta sung by Julie London. Only Trolls and people who has no talent would thumbs down this vid even if you don't listen to this style you have to give credit to the skill of the artist who has been around for a long time.

Tommy plays Maton guitars, which is an Australian company. I know he uses a BG808 on his recordings but he owns a bunch of Matons (including the TE series which Maton made for him). Now the difference is that guitar in the video is in nice condition, so you know he hasn't been using it for long because Tommy puts his guitars through the paces - Just watch what as he bends the guitar for Classical Gas, or uses the guitar as a drum in Mombasa.
@451567 жыл бұрын
This is amazing. Sheer musicianship should not be so much fun. The harmonic runs are just too much - incredible, and I do love the way that Tommy will happily sit aside and let others take centre stage.

It is a custom made guitar built by David Taylor (DT Guitars). It is loosely based on the old Gibson Kalamazoo model made back in the early 30's. Tommy asked David to build this guitar specially for his Christmas CD that he released with John Knowles.

Tommy is more intuitive, and Emil is technical. When I hear Tommy playing, I hear his emotions. When hear Emil play, I hear the fun he has in in elaborate progressions and technical details. Both are masters of their craft!
