I can't believe how lucky I am that Tommy Emanuel will come into my living room any time I click a button, and patiently show me the way guitar is supposed to be played. Besides being the obvious musical genius he is, he must be a kind and generous person. Thanks Tommy

OH how very smart and clever. All he says is a good musician can make a cheap instrument sound good. It takes a lot of willful ignorance to hear that and assume it means a good musician shouldn't use a good instrument.
@TruthSurge7 жыл бұрын
"All he says is a good musician can make a cheap instrument sound good." Not if the action is 3 times as high as he's used to, with 2 gauges bigger strings and a hump at the heel. Ask yourself why you never see pros playing crap guitars and you'll understand something. They can distinguish good from bad from great and if someone else can't, that isn't their problem.

So true. Years ago Steve Goodman played a show at our college. After the show he dropped into the local bar. I was lucky enough to be there. The bartender asked him to play a tune and he said he didn't have a guitar. Bartender gave him an old beat up Kay (remember those?). He made it sing! A great player can make any crappy box sound good while a bad player can make a $6000 Martin sound like junk.

I think people should learn bit of classical guitar techniques, especially when it comes to right hand techniques. There are a lot of overlaps.
@vadymvv6 жыл бұрын
Nope, that is different technique. You must learn on type of instrument that you gonna play.
@julkitan30174 жыл бұрын
well, I'm a classical guitarist and I've been trying to learn this inspiring style like Tommy, new to me but right hand is really different in many ways, thumb works differently moreover he uses a thumbpick (which is completely creepy to get used to when it's new..) and after many months of practice you cannot get exactly the same punchy tone only with nail thumb ( it could be OK but a bit too thin)... although maybe my years of classical training gave me strength and independence to each finger that could make it easier, I had to adapt to many new aspects like anchoring down the hand all the time which you would only do for some rare occasions (like pizzicato etc...) on the classical repertoire. Nails are a bit of a problem on steel strings aswell (they get fragile and tend to sound thin and trebly on those strings) Tommy don't have any, although it's a big important part of work/time you'd dedicate to when you're into classical. And I'm not gonna mention the left hand with really important thumb trechnique to fret bass notes which is quite prohibited when you learn classical guitar except for really rare occasions if you're confirmed level (pieces that requires really big strecth ...)
@kenz27563 жыл бұрын
@@julkitan3017 A late comment, but i wanted to ask, I heard some classical guitarists actually don't play with nails. I watch Brandon Acker which is a very skilled classical guitar and any historical guitar player, he said that back centuries ago there are also a lot of classical guitarists that don't use nails, says they could get superior tone without nails, then Brandon cut his and play without it, he still plays without nails until today. How uncommon is it for classical guitarists to play without nails?

I would say don't record yourself at least not on some shitty recording device. For example your phone will distort the noise and will sound awful to what you really sound like.
@pixelatedparcel7 жыл бұрын
Jacob Frank Get real, man. People used to record themselves on cassette tapes, back in the day. The point is, if you want to improve just record yourself so you can hear how shitty you actually sound to other people. Then, once you sound halfway decent your can post it like this guy (who also killed it on a Wallmart guitar) in another post: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jqG9e4SGntt4jdU. I' m pretty sure he recorded that on his phone, by the way...
@jacobfrank31367 жыл бұрын
all im saying is that if you play a open E string its going to sound better irl then off your phone. You could make an argument that you could record you actually using techniques and bends and seeing if your bends are in tune
