I thank you as well. Familiar with most of these tunes inasmuch as I saw Tommy's trio frequently in the 90's and most were a regular part of his book. Don't remember hearing the first tune although I'm sure he called it regularly like the others I just missed it. However I loved Tommy's repertoire as well as his personnel ( especially the sideman here ) and his playing. Beyond the Bluebird is one of my all time favorite compositions

Was honored to be introduced to him by the SF Great Pianist Merrill Hover…Saw him backing Ella at The Fairmont Hotel with Keter Bett and Bobby Dothan!!great Trio backing Ella with the excellent Ernie Heckshire Big Band in The Venetian Room atop Nob Hill owned by The Swig Family.Had also the Honor of playing at that Grand Hotel numerous times…The owner Ben Swig purchased the Hotel I believe in the late 40’s and I was Told by his Grandson that he used to see Ella sitting in the Lobby .He asked her why she was sitting in the exact same spot every day(Ella was performing nightly)and she replied,”Because I can!Ben Swig was the first Class A Hotel to insist that performers of color where not only treated in an absolutely First Class manner, but were afforded the very best to the best Jazz Royality..Nat,Sammy,Dorthy D,Lena, and James Brown and Junior Walker!!Great memories of Musical History in the making by a very special Philanthropic Family that continues to support many worthy causes!!Tommy Really Swung the Band, and with Keter and Bobby they gave Ella the best of the best!!!Thank for this amazing piece of music to listen to..I do so frequently as this is what Finese is all about!!

Tommy Flanagan (3/16 1930-11/16 2001)

The epitome of class elegance and swing. Gold standard for jazz piano trio music - up there w the all time best imo. Especially in the last cpl decade's of the 20th century and into the very beginning of the 21st, Tommy and Hank Jones were the giant pillars of jazz piano trio tradition.
