this is where my father is from, i would remember going there as a child and very vividly remember like 15 people living in my aunties house, all drunk or high smoking something, my father and his twin brother is the only one in his family to actually move off the rez, its a sad life generational trauma is a real thing, and it doesn’t help that if you aren’t part of the 5 recognized tribes good luck getting any type of funding over a hinder or so bucks my grandpa is 85 still only getting 350$ a month, for hundreds of years of broken treaties and confining us to land we aren’t aboriginal to they secluded us to land with terrible soil no water or river flow, basically the shittiest land they could find, not to mention the hundreds of boarding schools where they tried to convert them to catholism and when they didn’t they would rape and kill them, multiple burial sites have been found under old boarding schools from the 1800-1900s we only just got right to vote in 1972. so to say we got the short end of the stick is a understatement i know people in other countries got it worse, but that should not be the case since we were the people aboriginal and indigenous to this land, yes we crossed the ice bridge from asia but that was around 30,000 years ago so we did settle but we were the first.

I travel for work once a year through here to sturgis from Orlando Florida & SD is so beautiful but so sad for the natives that live out there. Everything is 45-1hr away from most likely were you’ll be staying at, one Walmart & the saddest Walmart I’ve ever bin to with all vegetables and fruits being expired & just left on shelves. So people are most likely to eat at local food markets that have a breakfast/lunch deli inside. The tribes get treated so unfair that most of them are very anxious to interact with other ethnicities & you’ll see this a lot during sturgis rally’s. Could be do to a lot of the under age teens being up to no good with stealing a lot of merchandise from rally’s or locals shops in other local cities. A very bipolar society out there but when it’s right, it’s breathtaking for sure do to the landscapes and weather!
