This song stirs up big memories for me. My sweetheart and I started going steady in 1967, best summer was 1968, married in 1969, along with his going to Nam. He passed away in 2016, and I miss him every day.

I had this long version here on 45 rpm vinyl with the orange and yellow Roulette label in the late seventies. I found it at an oldies record store called Peaches in Rockville, MD. The audio quality was remarkably good, but then, I had a great stereo setup which of course helped. This tune still makes me think of varsity squads, empty beer cans and bottles on the floor of my '68 Impala, Fleetwood Mac and Little Feat, WKRP, baggiesful of pot, toilet papering my girlfriend's ex's house, and lines for gas that extended clear down the damned block and on around the corner during the oil embargo. In short, pleasant whistful reminiscences. Thanks for posting !!!

Love this long version with the wah wah guitar solo and all! Such a lovely melody and the tremolo on the voice set it apart from all songs that were being played on the radio at the time. I was 15 when I first heard it and it gives me a sense of happiness mixed with nostalgia every time I hear it.

Mit 16 hörte ich dieses Lied das erste mal, und denke dabei an meine ersten Eiscafee Besuche und Discozeiten. War eine schöne Zeit.

I remember hearing this song for the first time on the radio in my folks' car when I was a wee lad in the 80s, that vibrato kinda freaked me out! My first exposure of psychedelia...:)

A little bit before my time but I can imagine listening to this song barreling down the highway in a Firebird with the 4-barrels humming in the background. Little did I know I'd miss those days growing up like I do now. A good song, and full tank of gas, and nowhere to be.
