This is the newer way to play "Sally Anne" in four parts. The older version just has the first two parts and is often called "Old-Time Sally Anne."

We write in the introduction to the channel that all of this footage was shot with a tightly edited PBS series in mind - what became the five-part "American Patchwork." Lomax and his crew, then, weren't shooting with the ultimate intention of capturing full performances; thus the often frustrating camera repositioning and spastic zooms. This is raw footage, posted warts and all. And yes, that is Alan with the microphone!

I think Alan's normally steady camera has been handed off to someone else, possibly a child based on the viewing angle. But a side benefit of that is that we are given a clue how Alan made these video recordings.. At about 2:27, there is a brief view of someone (possibly Alan?) holding a high quality microphone. close to the musicians and above.

I agree that the banjo is not in dynamic accord with the fiddle [the presumable "lead" instrument], but there seem to be many voices in the thread who feel otherwise! Oh well! 🤔
