​@@siofra3819 I find that in England, in London at least you get two types of people of Irish descent. I know guys who have four Irish grandparents and fairly mainstream Irish names but are as English as they come, they will only mention the Irish thing in passing. Whilst you get others who come across as out and out cockneys but identify strongly with their Irish roots and are even fairly hostile to England in some ways (nothing too nasty, mainly regarding football and history.) Even with the examples that you mentioned, if we look at Oasis, you can find loads of videos of Noel talking about how he isn't English, doesn't have English blood etc (you can also find vids of him saying he's half Irish half English) but he also famously had that Union Jack guitar and will say "we" when talking about the England football team. So he's a bit of a contradiction but he seems to be more on the Ireland side. Looking at Liam, he never really mentions the Irish thing and is constantly going on about football coming 'ome when England play, so he seems to be more of the England side. Because a lot of identity comes from culture it isn't always so straightforward to put people in boxes or assume their positions. My situation is more complicated, my dad is Pakistani and my mum is Irish, but I was born in London and lived most of my life here. We lived in Belgium for a bit when I was growing up and because I was from England, people referred to me as "the English guy." I never really had an issue with it, I did move from England to Belgium and my parents never really brought up nationality or ethnicity at home so I didn't have any strong thoughts on the issued. One time my mum got a bit touchy and asked us we were telling people we are English because we are not. Also one time my granny stuck it on my mum telling her that she had let her kids become English lol. But anyway, it isn't always so simple.

Fs this is the first time I’ve read some sense regarding a United ireland. The south of Ireland seem to be fighting back a bit which as a United Ireland it would be like Luton/London. I'm an English Roman Catholic too. Never had one issue with a Irish Protestants.
