Tommy's Trains - Northumberland Line Opening

It's been a historic day in The North East or England today as the new Northumberland Line opened along with Ashington and Seaton Delaval Railway Stations. Tommy and Daddy had to be there and therefore set the alarm early for Sunday morning. We had breakfast and headed to Newcastle Central Station to catch the first passenger train for over 60 years to make the journey from Newcastle to Ashington.
We were met by huge crowds all eager to be part of the historic first journey and thankfully, Northern anticipated this and made sure it was a 4 car set so everyone had a seat.
We set off late due to late running Lumo and LNER trains but a cheer burst out on the 2 158 Classes as we pulled away from Platform 1. It was a great atmosphere onboard with lots of excited passengers and fellow KZbinrs. It was also great meeting some people who watch Tommy's videos.
We made our way up the mainline before branching off onto the new line at Benton Junction. The new line has had its problems resulting in delays and only 2 of the 6 stations being ready to open today. You'll see in the video how much more work is needed but the official line is the remaining stations will open in 2025.
It was brilliant to be part of a line opening that is going to massively help the communities and economics of Ashington, Bedlington, Blyth and Seaton Delaval and there are for now, an extra 2 local stations for us to shoot videos from.

Great video Tommy and Dad. I have just been on it with my son, his favourite train 156482 was on it this afternoon so we did that journey there and back. For someone who can remember the Old Blyth and Newsham stations it was great to see it back running again 👍🚂

No great shock to see you two doing the presentation of this partially reopened line. Sixty years ago I was a teenage spotter having to live through the so-called rationalisation and modernisation of BR, which basically meant slashing so many branch lines. That was the result of the plan of Doctor Richard Beeching working to the instructions of the Minister of Transport, Ernest Marples ( whose family had already started earning their fortune through the construction of roads including the early motorways ). Sadly, so many of those "lost lines" now could never be reopened because of repurposing of at least part of their route. Lets us hope that Northern can successfully provide and promote a reliable service on the revived Northumberland Line so that in another sixty years time Tommy can tell the tale of "I was there when it reopened". Keep on vlogging.

Yeah, it was great to be a part of what will hopefully be a successful reopening. There was a lot of joy and interest in it this morning so hopefully that's a sign of things to come. The prices seem good for it too. £3 single during peak hours and £2.60 off peak.

ever wondered why 158871 lookes different? It’s been sold from scotrail to northern!

Yeah that could be the case. Some of the ScotRail 156s that have been passed to Northern have extra door controls installed and the 158s from ScotRail have bike compartments (I think anyway)
