@@alexkilgour1328 having Irish heritage doesn’t make someone Irish, it makes their older family / ancestors Irish. Newfoundland isn’t even in the same fucking continent as Ireland.
@alexkilgour1328 Жыл бұрын
@@archiederham2103 well, my Irish Passport makes me Irish, by law and birth. My father was born in Ireland, all my extended family are still there, and I go and visit as often as I'm able (and have since I was a young child). Culturally, Newfoundland is the most Irish place outside of Ireland, in the world. Growing up in Newfoundland, where the population is roughly 45% ethnically Irish, the culture and traditions are much the same. Prior to joining Canada, in 1949, there were parts of the island where the street signs were in Irish and Irish was still spoken. In fact, there were still some people, along the Irish Loop, whose first language was Irish, not English, as recently as the 80's and 90's.
