Wow, I was truly enjoying this video but for some reason I was not prepared for the incredible tonal properties of this guitar. The sound is so complex with wonderful low end and extremely open, loud & present trebles. My my, Tom - now you know how we all feel when we look at and play the guitars we purchase. It is often this unique stress that is created between the space of spending more money that we know we should and the joy one gets from playing music on a hand crafted piece of fine art. Congratulation on acquiring this masterpiece! Thanks, John Gig Harbor, WA

This video was a wonderful find. KZbin apparently knows what turns my head. I greatly appreciate Japanese luthiers. I have an acoustic by Kazuo Yairi (DY90, 1989) and a stunning classical by Sumio Kurosawa (1978). The tone and attention to detail is … beyond. It’s a thin top for maximum response, there’s going to be some movement, I’d expect that. The playability is unaffected. The elevated fingerboard helps with access in the higher registers (in theory) but heck, classical players manage just fine without cutaways.

@@rcjoe406 Respectfully, I’m not sure I agree with that. When you think of the time involved, the cost of materials, tooling, cost of running a workshop etc etc, I’d actually argue that hand built instruments aren’t expensive enough! Most luthiers aren’t ‘well off’, it’s often a paycheck to paycheck situation. Most luthiers build between 8-10 guitars a year, it doesn’t take a genius to run the numbers. Many of my peers are busting their asses working 6-7 days a week, sometimes with 2nd jobs just to keep the shop lights on. The problem is that we have become used to mass produced crap and inconceivably low prices.
