Does this method work if there is fluid already in the system? Do you need to crack open the bleeder valve while doing this adjustment? Thanks

This method works with fluid in the system. No need to crack a bleeder.

Hello, I'm reaching out because I have a rear disc conversion that I'm trying to set properly on my buddie's 1972 Landcruiser. It's got a scout Dana 44 in the rear. I have the correct kit and installed it. What I'm having trouble with is getting the parking brake to actually work. My gosh, it's been driving me nuts. So this truck has a hand lever that you pull back and I have not been able to pull it back enough to get it to stop the truck. It gets very hard as if it's working, but the truck does not stay put. They are the GM style calipers with the spring. I adjusted them according to the instructions so that the gap is roughly 1/8 inch when the lever is pushed forward. The only way I've been able to get the parking brake to work is to tighten the adjuster to the point where the rear calipers arms are already at the 1/8 gap, depressing the brakes, then pulling the lever as hard as I can. And if it's in drive, it'll still move lol. Anyway, I'm at a loss of what to do. The system is custom. I made a bracket to hold the two cables, used a jeep style adjuster that goes from the two cables to one and used the stock cable assembly from the cab to that adjuster. I would appreciate any guidance at all. I've looked everywhere and cannot find any videos with my particular problem, haha. Thanks so much for reading. -Asterios Builds4Christ

It sounds like the calipers are adjusted properly. It could be that there is not enough throw or pull with the hand e-brake assembly. You could adjust the caliper so that the lever has almost no movement off the stopper, just make sure not to overdo it which would cause the calipers to have constant drag. The e-brake provision in these calipers does not have the holding power of a drum brake setup.

@@TomsOffroad76 This adjustment procedure will also aid on my 67 Fairlane converted to disc 2 years ago. I have never been satisfied the way the car stops. I'll try your methods sir.

Too many people don't know about this. So many poorly performing rear disc conversions and with such an easy fix right here.....
