As someone who is new to electric grinders, this looks like what I need. The Breville is a great price but probably a bit more complex than what I need. I don’t care so much about the grind time as much as I care about the single dose setup. There’s one setting so I can concentrate on the most appropriate grind for the machine. I think I will pair it with the Breville dual boiler unit.

I love my DF64 gen 2. Had it for a few months now. I wanted low retention. Single dose. And something that would do espresso and filter. And not to much static. Thus the DF64 G2 was my choice. This however would looks like a smaller version of that. Given the price i wil recommend this to friends over the heavier price of the bigger version.

I like the stability of the build and the grind adjustment better on the DF54, and the deionizer. For a taste test, I'd have to try comparing them side by side. @mtnlover10 ай бұрын
I am excited at this option! Thank you for sharing. We have the SK40: I was excited to get a stepless grinder that was affordable. Control was really good for grind size. The only disappointment is that I thought the flavor is a bit muddled. We use mostly light to medium roast single origin and want the unique flavors to come through. I know flat burrs are more recommended for this, but we couldn't afford 500 for one. In your opinion, does this 54 mil flat burr improve flavor enough to notice from the SK40? Can you do a comparison of the two, seeing as they are priced in the same ballpark? Thank you!

Really wish that was available a couple of years ago. I started out with a Mignon Facile for about $150 more, then spent another $100 on a bellows hopper and an updated dial system. I've added the new DF64 gen II and it's great so would expect this to perform similarly.

Meaning, light-medium roast, I find I have to adjust the grind size on back to back shots by a significant amount. After about 6 grind sessions I can go from 8 down to 4. I’m wondering if the DF54 behaves similarly? I never figured out the problem with the DF83 but am guessing it might be heat related. Often wandered what the impact is of the screws within the burrs. The burr cutting edges and geometry are so carefully engineered but yet they then have great holes, edges and screw heads where the screws are. Is this just a shortcut/cost saving compared to putting the screws somewhere else? Or does it really not matter to the resulting grinds?
@TomsCoffeeCorner10 ай бұрын
They need the holes to mount the burrs to their carriers. There are however some grinders with ghost burrs, which are mounted differently. But that's also more expensive...

Hello, how does it compare to the older df64 gen 1? Because here in my country they are priced the same. If you have a recommendation on the issue i thank you.

Great video, this one and the others about affordable grinders, love your channel. Do you have a suggestion how to buy this from Europe, Serbia and not to spend 400 EUR with shipping taxes?

Europe charges import fees - no way around that.

How about the fellow opus comparing it to the df54? Which to recommend
@FourIntoOne10 ай бұрын
For the money it looks like a good option - but only if single dosing for espresso is you thing. The Opus and Baratzza encore esp offer a better use case for more general use maybe but this is certainly gonna be a success I reckon

Flat burr, stepless, ionizer, 0 .1g retention, full metal for $200? C'mon, blow them out of the water

This certainly beats the Opus. ESP is still good for hoppered use though.

Awesome videos Tom! I am torn between this one and the Specialita. What would you suggest? I could actually get the Specialita for around 100euros more. I could still SD the specialita. But the build/quality etc seems to be better on the Specialita. Just the small dial could be a challenge. What do you recommend between the 2 for a first timer and just drinking espresso? Thanks.

Idk. They are both pretty excellent. I think I would go for the Eureka for potential resale value, if you ever sell it. But honestly, they’re both very good.

Hi Tom, have you tested with the Baratza Encore ESP? If so, how does the DF54 compare? Do you prefer one over another? I would be looking to do both pour over and espresso.
@TomsCoffeeCorner3 ай бұрын
The DF54 is a nicer grinder all around, I'd say. But it's different in a lot of ways - single doser, it's slow, but more premium build, chinese designed, and flat burrs vs conical. The ESP is more convenient to use if you're not switching beans and don't want to single dose.
@ToddHassett3 ай бұрын
Makes sense. I do prefer a medium to darker roast for pour over and a lighter roast for espresso. Sounds like maybe you’d lean more towards the DF54 for those roasting profiles?

I just received mine and was wondering what the best setting number would be for espresso with a La Pavoni? It’s my first grinder. Thanks!

Well it depends on your bean, but I'd try 12-14.

hey! im considering the DF54 to pair with my europiccola too. have you been pleased with your results?
@HenryChinaski6142 ай бұрын
@@adrianravinsky8418 Hello, and thanks for the note. I couldn’t be happier with this grinder, but have no basis for comparison. I will say that the combination of the two produce the best espresso i have ever had though. And, fresh roasted beans are a must, and make a huge difference in quality. I order from COFFEEBEANSDIRECT, excellent, fresh beans, great customer service, and a very reasonable price. I get the Medium Roast Espresso whole beans. The darker roast espresso was too oily for the machine and gummed it up. Also, COFFEESENSOR, the company has been a great resource for parts, and the owner, Tudor, has taught me everything I know about the LA PAVONI. I highly recommend, and hope this helps. Thanks, DW

#DF54 I'm definitely interested. Been looking to upgrade my grinder. I don't have an espresso machine yet, kinda torn between getting a Flair or a similarly priced machine. I wonder if the Flair 58 is better than a machine priced around the same or not though.

it will be very popular no doubt. in asia there is a 60mm flat titanium burr single dose with bellows grinder for about the price of df54. "Coffee Grinder 520N"
