Great video Tom!!! I just repaired my machine for about £7. Very clear, straightforward video, the job went with no glitches and took about 1hr going super slowly to make sure I didn't screw it up anywhere. All the tips on assembly and reassembly are excellent. Couple of tiny suggestions: Sliding the cartridge past the on-off switch is important but not that hard, but the hose that supplies the steam wand gets in the way a lot in reassembly and makes the final screws harder to locate, super easy to remove at the start with 2 clips. Also...once the main cartridge screws are out the steam wand goes floppy, I didn't realise that and thought I'd missed something or broken it... but on reassembly, it's fine. Anyway thanks again!

Thank you Tom! my Delonghi model is 3420, around 3 years old, first I thought it was clogging, but turnned out it was low pressure, it took me at least 1 and a half hours to disassemble (not very easy) and take the OVP out, since the rest of the machine looks pretty strong, so I gave it a try and order the part, and took me another 1.5 hour to assemble(might need some plumber + clocker skill since there isn't much room to operate), and almost gave up in the middle, probably next time it will be a little easier. Hope someone at Delonghi can see this and replace the OVP with something not that easy to fail, since the rest of the machine is pretty strong. Right now, my Delonghi is good and I am handy. Best wishes!

Our 5 year old Dedica 680 had stopped working and because we really love the machine and because we use every day, we decided to replace it with a brand new 685. The problem was when making an expresso, it would start to pump the water, then after a bit, it would stop and flash the lights indicating an error. My initial thought was the pump failing. After watching this video, I checked for bubbles coming up in the water reserve, but didn't notice any, but I decided for cost of a new OVP (8 euros), I might as well change it along with the pump (24 euros). I also took the opportunity to replace the original steam wand with a Rancilio, something I wouldn't try on a brand new machine. This video was a fantastic source for disassembly and replacing the OVP and pump and another Tom's Coffee Corner video showing how to upgrade to Rancilio was also very helpful! I also happened to see a Delongia video that showed how to clean the diffuser (a single screw). My bad, but this is something I had never done because I was unaware it should be done periodically. I was shocked as to how much coffee had made its way to the inside of the diffuser. So much so that it might have been the real culprit because it was so clogged. No matter what the problem was, for a relatively low cost, I have a Dedica with a new valve, pump and a real steam wand. Thank you Tom, your videos are awesome!

Bonjour Tom, Your videos are the most useful on the net. Not many other sites give such information. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with the world wide community. I ordered and replaced the OPV valve on my Deduce EC680 to resolve poor flow and low pressure. After putting everything back together bubbles are coming out of the port in the tank when I press the button to make a coffee. What would be the reason for that if not a faulty valve?
@TomsCoffeeCorner Жыл бұрын
I'm sorry, but that's the main reason you'd see bubbles coming up. Did the new OVP help your group head pressure, or not? Sometimes you will still see very small bubbles coming up into the water tank, despite a correctly working OVP, but not big bubbles. The only other thing I can think of is perhaps a calcified line downstream of the OPV.

Then I replaced the valve and now brewing is great, but steam is hardly working, and there are obvious bubbles in the water tank (I believe that's where my steam hugely goes to). Seems like the replacement valve is not correctly working either, just differently. Going to order a new one once again, but happy to hear any ideas

Hey Andrei, I am really not sure. If you are getting brew water, then the pump is working fine. Possibly, you might need a new valve apparatus? Steam Valve: bit.ly/3QYbK3X

Hello again! Eventually my Dedica is fixed, and so I'm adding my comment here, as it might be useful for somebody. Indeed it was an issue with the new valve! I was in pretty much doubt, disassembled my Dedica several times, verified just everything, but couldn't imagine anything else but the new valve not functioning properly as well. So I ordered a new one, have just replaced it and - bingo! Now both the brewing pressure and steam pressure are good again. So, the bottom line is: bad OPV may behave differently: either it makes too low pressure when brewing, or it makes too low pressure when steaming (and a lot of bubbles in the water tank, with noticeable noise). In any case it should be replaced. And if after replacement the problem is still there (or flipped from brewing to steaming or vice versa), that means the new OPV is still not good, that really does happen - just replace it once again. Cheers!

Thanks, Rincon! I already have a couple of small springs organized to try. I am just waiting to get a portafilter that I can put a manometer on. Stay tuned!

Thank you Tom, you are such à connoisseur on top of a great engineer. I love coffee and my dedica 685 but it seems rather délicate... so coffee does not go through ground coffee but it does through the pods, how is this possible? Thank you for your advice 🙏
@TomsCoffeeCorner Жыл бұрын
Well, the pods are likely ground coarser, and also the water might flow around the pod. Try grinding your coffee coarser, if it's not making it though.

Hello Tom! Great video!!! Thank you so much for the great instructions. I have a question: Im currently experiencing LOW PRESSURE within the steam wand. Sometimes the machine pauses itself(flashing buttons light) in the middle of steaming milk. If I replace the OPV only, do you think this might solve the low pressure steam?

Great contents! Looking forward to your sharing on modifying ec685 to 9 bar.

Thanks Mr. Fong! And I am also very curious to see what this machine can produce with lower pressure as well. Stay tuned for that. 😉

Thanks, eckelon! First I have to find a way to build a manometer, then I will test some different springs. Cheers!

Hi I watched your great video and I think I need this part replaced although not 100% as no bubbles visible. I am particularly practical but will give it a shot! Order the part but I need to now purchase the relevant tools - are you able to summarise what these are please? Many thanks in advance.

Hello sir, thank you for your video. I have the problem with pressure but no bubbles comes from the bottom of the tank. I think it may be the calcium stuffed in the pipes maybe? Problem is that if i stuff very fine grinded coffee or if i pressure it harder with my hand, the water comes from machine Very Difficulty, sometimes only just dropping drops and sometimes machine stop the process completely and giving me only few drops of coffee in a cup. If i grind my beans more coarse, and don't pressure the coffee, it works, but coffee is watery and not so good. Do you think the problem could be in the valve you mention or the pump? Or should i try to decalc again? Because before i left the machine without decalc for about a month or two, i didn't have the time for decalc. I drink 5 cups a day ao im heavy user of the machine. Thank you for your help.

I searched on how to mod the La Specialista Arte to 9 bar instead of 15 bar, couldn't find any thread/forum but found this video. Decided to watch the whole video and.. learned something new. This is very interesting, I didn't know that the water goes back to the tank if it's overpressured. I wonder if there's an OPV 9 bar for the La Specialista? I just couldn't get the desired flow rate for the coffee (it's medium light roasted) I brew and everytime I grind finer it just goes overpressure...

I don't know of a good aftermarket OPV that just fits on the Delonghi fittings. It's too bad, as that would make a sweet aftermarket part. Cheers!
