about that thing of moving fast enough to not get caught by the explosion of the mines in the minefield. here's the thing: you asked that kitten question as an archivist question (which makes sense, given you had a professional at the table), but in archives the filing is all based on the collection as it arrives at the archive. so then there may not be any intrinsic connection between the file and what its filed between. like if you have an archive of pets, with a bunch of cats, and then you get the archive of someone who has a bunch of dogs, and one kitten, you're not gonna put that kitten with the cats like you would in a library (where you'd probably not even keep it, if you already had a kitten in the collection), you're gonna keep that group of pets together.

I brought my daughter that was probably 2 1/2 years old. She decided that she wanted to wear her bear outfit. If ever there was a place you could get away with it, that was the place. At one point we came up the elevator in front of the information desk at the commons. I was in the corner of the elevator, and she was right in front of the door. The look on the face of the people working at the desk as the doors open and all they saw was a little person in a bear outfit... priceless.

@Tom about the heavy glasses thing: those are heavy glasses for a _human,_ where the visual acuity has to be high so they still need to use a perfectly transparent medium. A horse doesn't need to see as much detail, in fact it would probably benefit from seeing a slightly fuzzy world, so you could use Fresnel lenses for thinness and lightness.

As an optician apprentice I feel obligated to comment - nowadays mineral glass (Silicat glass) or what we actually call “glass” in day-to-day life is rarely used for spectacles. Almost all of the time the lenses are made of plastic of sort (like polycarbonate) which can have a higher, or at least the same refractive index as silicat glass meanwhile being much lighter and less prone to break. It does scratch more easily, so it requires protective coating, however it does not affect the weight of the spectacles whatsoever. Although it is quite individual and sometimes it can be beneficial to use flint glass, but again - rarely. About 90-95% of the lenses I have ever handled at work were plastic. 2:30

I do love the fact that this _horse_ technically outranked some humans in the military. Imagine you go through the brutal process of becoming a soldier only to be outranked by a former race horse.

Someone said that's common for the handlers so that mistreatment is technically a military crime

When they talk about the horse outranking the privates in her platoon - I think that's actually true. From what I understand, military dogs, by official U.S. military policy, outrank their human handlers. This is so the handlers don't mistreat or abuse the dogs.

Not that they dont mistreat the dogs, but to make it a punishable offence for doing so

Third difference to add to the list of differences between anti-tank and anti-personnel land mines. (Low hanging fruit here). One of them is a much bigger explosion than the other, because one of those targets is way harder to kill.

Six years later. Still hilarious. Yes I am rewatching tech diff starting from season 1. It took me a month on and off to get to here, but it is worth it.
