Huge HexBug Nano Construct MAZE challenge - Can any bug find the end winning Hex cell ?

My collection keeps getting bigger - This is my largest Maze Habitat Arena yet...
If you watch to the very end you will see Four clever HexBug warrior winners!
I have built this with parts from the following Habitat Sets:
1 x Hexbug Construct Elevation Set.
2 x Construct Habitat Sets.
1 x Construct Starter Set. (Vertical rollers)
3 x RaceWay sets.
3 x Battle bridge sets. (One of which had Construct hex cells!)
1 x Std Habitat set.

Great spot. I re-watched and sure enough between 04:06 and 04:12 this sneaky hex bug actually changes tracks and then heads straight for a merry-go-round! I had not noticed that before. :D He did it to show me that the odds of all my mazes are impossible to calculate because every now and then they do something entirely un-expected.

I am glad you both enjoy them! (I love mazes... Always have and these guys seem to too!) The 'Y' piece is only available in the 'RaceWay' habitat set. This set is not so easily available now, I recommend ebay. There are always sets on there each week. Good Luck! The 'Y' piece is a tricky one to us, but worth the effort. You also get the loop arounds! BTW - I have a detailed review of the RaceWay set on on my channel. You may be interested. :D

I am glad you Liked it! :D I find ebay as good as any if you want 'cheap'. (Some of the 'copies' are pretty good and the only difference is that about 1 in 10 will make more noise than a 'official' HexBug. and they will not have the special collectors code.)

That being said, I have a feeling it's possible to model the whole thing as a very complicated Markov system, and get an approximation for the probability that a given bug ends up at the end, as a function of time. It would be VERY horrible, though.

HexBug keep releasing newer versions that are backward compatible. the new sets have plenty of the track parts, they are just different colours.

You are right! and add to that; that each bug can interact with each other as they bump and jostle. But simplistically a Hex Cell has 6 'entrances / exists'. Any Bug enters through one entrance & eventually will exit. (By their very 'move forwards' nature - they are more likely to exit straight ahead or ahead with some deviation. Hence I added the central 'stub' to complicate matters)

They look very similar but also have 'legs on their backs' so that when they go inside a 'tube' they can climb. But the videos I have seen from hexbug shows me that the whole idea is flawed. You can not have lots and lots of bugs as they will get stuck inside a tube. It is all multi-level and they have gone backwards and the new sets are not 'construct' sets. I think HexBug are trying to re-do the HexBug nano just because of all the forgery / copies that there are. I will stick with V1.

I think the odds of any HexBug finding the end is more about the number of direction choices that they have to make and add into that the wonderfully chaotic nature that 'Almost anything can happen'. IE - It is not any single bug running the course, it is many. Therefore most bugs are interacting with each other and influencing the direction the take. It takes many many many 'correct directions' to win. It is more like rolling a dice & getting a 6 followed by a 6 followed by a 6 followed by a...

I find Toys R us, Amazon and ebay the best in general. Here in the UK also RED5 and John Lewis. The reason they are getting harder to buy is that HexBug are planning on releasing V2 later this year and for some daft reason think they should stop selling V1's. !? (V2 can climb up tubes as well as do everything that V1's can do)

I plan a very rough design on paper and then built it. Then play test it. Then modify it till it works. The HexBug V1s are getting harder to buy at the moment - but you can still get them if you look at the main retailers, Amazon and ebay etc. Glad you like the videos!

The set is exactly the same as the standard Bridge Battle box set. Inside I just happened to have Construct Cells. (It was inside one of these box sets that I picked up my fave Brown HexBug!)
