HexBug Nano V2 MAZE challenge - Can any V2 bug find the end winning Hex cell ?

Here I have created a maze challenge race for the new HexBug nano V2 to see if these new Hexbugs have the same ability to explore and hunt out every possible twist and turn.
I particularly like the new Black Hole piece as it gives the HexBug three random directions in which they take. The 'Y' junctions are also unique to the V2 habitat sets and have a flap gate that is influenced based on orientation & gravity in one direction & yet still allows a HexBug the ability to push the flap in one direction of travel. Great for mazes as you can see in this set-up.

I bought one of these hex bugs out of curiosity a couple years ago and thought it was pretty cool. I ended up giving it to my 4yr old son and he ended up loving it so i was thinking of getting him some more for christmas so i got on youtube to see whats new and cool in the hexbug world to try and get an idea what to get. This was a fun video and after seeing it i made up my mind to get my son a hexbug playset so thank for making this cool video. It ended up helping me a lot.

Kay Cee Yes. The bugs can drive over the hole made by removing any of the side wall pieces. I have many other videos that show hexbug v1 and v2 Nanos with open areas made by removing one or many sides walls and doors

I bought both of those sets from ToysRus right here in the UK. HexBug are weird! They do not have all their sets on the site and in each country there are subtle differences. Some get 1 bug, some 2. Colour of bugs differ. Some have more 'pegs and flaps' etc etc.. They even use different names for the exact same set!

Brandon Mckenna I agree. With a V2 it needs 'full power' to climb. What I do when their batteries are off peak, I then have them in a 2D (No climbing) set-up with my HexBug nano V1s in a maze / race / battle set-up. I only change batteries when they are completely flat.

Brandon Mckenna Ok - Do a test. IF when you squeeze the Nanos sides near the battery compartment it starts to buzz again - then You may need to gently and carefully stretch out one of the battery contact springs. Watch my 'How to change a V2 battery' and I point it out in that video.

Daniel Rosebush Not really much difference. V2s are slightly less noisey when they are on their sides as their backs are also soft. However, they take longer to self right... So it balances out!

These hexbug nanos are able to self-rigt etc. It is also far more difficult to help a V2 hexbug nano when it is inside a tube. We love watching your videos and the mazes you have created. My question is how do you have your bugs going past the connectors ? Ours get stuck. Frustrated grandma. :)

+linda smith Hello! Glad you like my Maze videos. The white plastic connectors can get loose over time. They need to grip the tubes snug so there is no loose connections nor gaps. You can also use an easy peel section of tape to help compress the joints so the clear plastic parts are snug. Two lengths of about 12 cm on the widest two sides works for me. I hope that helps. :)

I am glad you Liked my video Mr Nice Guy :) The HexBug V1s are still as fantastic as they ever where. I am still undecided which I prefer, the V1s or the V2s. I am constantly weighing up in my mind if the vertical climbing out ways the additional challenges of the track builds and additional jam unblocking issues. BTW - I saw some clever programmable robotic bugs at the UK Gadget show. Those would make an excellent HexBug V3. (Video on my channel)

I am leaning towards v2 but am happy to supplement with v1 whenever it makes sense. I was looking at buying the black hole set...any other suggestions?

Out of the V2 sets my recommendations go to the new V2 Battle Bridge set + The Hurricane set. The Black Hole set is good, but I find I do not use the 'Watch tower or Helix' that much... I have reviewed every set - take a look as every piece is compatible with all the others. Remember to buy plenty of spare batteries! To climb they need a full charge. When a 'bit flat' they are still great on the flat, but struggle up those climbs. ebay is your best bet.

This is made mostly out of a Nano V2 Black Hole set + some older V1 sets. (The elevation set for the spiral) Are you looking at buying HexBug V2 or V1 sets ??
