Such acts were quite preordained when Kukis started attacking Meiteis. It was also found in their mission statements in the aftermath of May 3 violence that Meiteis are their primary target and then in the later stage fight Nagas because Meiteis constitute the majority population. Despite this scenario of future conflict they remained aloof believing that Kukis also fellow ST in the state working in tandem as members of Hill Areas Committee will never go against their will and their privileges and kept watching indefferently the Meiteis Kuki clash as a spectator. Even reacting strongly against Meiteis on minor incidents caused to Nagas in the start up of the conflict by premier Naga bodies. I wonder where are those bodies when Kukis are now randomly attacking Nagas and their villages at will. Will they still demand apologies from Kukis who committed such atrocities unlike the Meiteis? We should understand that pre-historically the Meiteis and the Nagas had been living together for centuries. There will be tussle, fights and even battles amongst neighbours as it happens in every society and still co-exist together by forgetting and forgiving past mistakes. But keeping the wounds green by studying revenge on the past mistakes of forefathers has not only brought rift between ethnic communities but also alienation which becomes very hard to foster ties again. Kukis are playing cunningly their handy game of garnering support from a group during their time of conflict with another group which sought Meiteis help during Naga Kuki clash for which the Meiteis are betrayed for giving them land to settle amongst us. Nagas should also know this that they may be the next target for betrayal.
