I was lucky enough to attend this concert. IT WAS AMAZING! When Syn started that opening riff I about crapped myself. I was super pumped that they played this.

Jonathan Jones he can honestly scream pretty well, he just often doesn’t because it’s not good for his voice, especially with the problem he suffered a couple years ago.

That Stage is so sick!!
@d4rkwest406 жыл бұрын
D34D_STRA1N It is. I wish they'd bring the real props out again like that. I get the idea with the setup for the Stage being based on the album's themes of technology and that's why there are lots of screens but I just really prefer a badass full set like they did for Nightmare and Hail to the King.

I was there. During the guitar solo the security guards were stopping a pit and kicked some people out, that’s why you don’t see Shadows walking around much during the solo, he was by the drums. He hit those notes, and when the lights went out i could barely see I.T, but M. shadows said something to Synyster and if I remember this right, Syn played a guitar solo. When M. Shadows came back on stage, almost all of the security had vanished, and no one else stopped a pit

@Amsyar Gates the security just making sure that nobody's getting hurt, that's their job.

@@154ahmadavicenna9 Sure that's their job, but no one was getting hurt at this show. Just like many cops... they act like they're there to protect, but they'll frequently abuse their power for their own ego.

USHARDY Timothy Terror Totally! They did "Chapter Four" on that tour, which was nice. They've been working "Burn it Down" and "Seize the Day" into the setlists throughout this tour too. I'll take any "Waking the Fallen" and "City of Evil" songs (outside of the usual singles) any day though! Always nice to hear that stuff. I personally wish they did more of it haha

I know M. Shadows had to progress as an artist and grew out of screaming, but I'm not digging the tough guy vocals over the old school screaming in some spots. Too shouty/raspy Anselmo-like as opposed to an intense, demonic growl. Anyways, they've all improved vocally as far as intonation and range go, and Arin resembles Jimmy here.
@TomWhaley62110 жыл бұрын
Yeah, me either. I prefer the old-school screaming over the shouting. Even his screaming during the self-titled tour was solid. I think they're trying to adapt their sound to arenas a little too much, with their setlist choices (excluding any songs with speed), slowing down the tempos of certain songs ("Unholy Confessions" "Second Heartbeat") and vocal approaches. I will say that they're all much better singers now then they were during "City of Evil" though. Most of the harmonies are on point during the shows, and Gates' voice just sounds overall much better. It's a shame they lost an important singer though, and haven't really had anybody step up to fill the void. The lack of the high harmonies are very noticeable in songs like "Burn It Down." I'm glad they're dusting songs off like that though. Much better stuff than "Welcome to the Family" and their usual stale setlists haha now if only we could get "Remenissions" again!
@Robmacabre20110 жыл бұрын
Yes! Tom, I completely agree! How great would it be to see them perform Remenissions or even something older like Darkness Surrounding out of nowhere? Just for a surprise; it'd be great. That'll really shun any doubts as far as Arin's talent and Shadows' screaming goes. And the vocal harmonies are amazing compared to their Live in San Diego/Mtv2 Performance from 2005; but yes, Sullivan is missed dearly when it comes to harmonies. Let's see where the next album goes. I personally think that Arin will be even flashier and more "Rev-like" since they purposely toned his technicality down to suit a steady groove/classic metal sound.
@TomWhaley62110 жыл бұрын
Roberto Miranda I definitely think Arin has the chops! He plays Jimmy's parts flawlessly live and even adds some more to them! I hope the next album sees them going in a "Waking"/"City" direction again, at least mentally. I'd love to see them show off again and make some interesting stuff again, because I feel like they've been sitting back on their parts ever since 2007 haha
@Robmacabre20110 жыл бұрын
I agree completely! Arin is definitely a MUCH better fit than Portnoy, despite Mike's experience. I do feel like they have been holding back a bit instrumentally, aside from some of Gates' solos of course. A darker direction not as gloomy as nightmare lyrically would be cool. I really wonder where they're going to go next since I heard M. Shadows claims A7X to be the next "clasic metal" band. I see his reasoning for saying so, but it'd be nice if they didn't wear their influences too prominently on the next record. I loved Coming Home, Planets and Acid Rain. Even though Coming Home had that Iron Maiden sound, it was reminiscent of C.o.E. in a way; and Planets and Acid Rain's keyboards/horns reminded me of Jimmy a bit.
@TomWhaley62110 жыл бұрын
Roberto Miranda I have no Portnoy complaints whatsoever. I thought he was a great fit, and I would've liked to see them do some more with him. Let him really let loose on some of Jimmy's stuff. But he was ultimately temporary... Arin is a perfect permanent fit though. I actually went to his first show ever in Reading PA in 2011, and he was great even then! When it comes to direction, I'm a bigger fan of when the lyrics tackled some darker and deeper subjects, like on "Waking the Fallen." It seems like the lyrics have really dumbed down to generic radio rock call-out lines like "You can't win this fight!" hah. I can't get down with that. I think Avenged can be the classic metal band of our generation, but by doing what they do best, and that's not emulating other bands. I've always dug that they were influenced by Iron Maiden, Guns N' Roses, Pantera, etc. but you could tell that from their early material, and they still maintained their own sound throughout. "Hail to the King" is only an album, not the end of the world, but they totally did wear their influences too proudly. The Iron Maiden song is an Iron Maiden song ("Coming Home"), the Guns N' Roses song is a Guns N' Roses song ("Doing Time") and the Metallica song... well, let's not talk about that one... hahaha.. They're still good songs, no doubt, just a little too obvious. "Planets" and "Acid Rain" are the two creative highlights of that album in my opinion as well.
