Het sprookje achter de Laven, dat in het Loerhuys te bekijken is, verhaalt dat tijdens de winter voor seizoen 1990 de Laven hun nederzetting hadden opgetrokken in de Efteling na een lange, barre tocht door de aarde. Vele jaren geleden leefden de Laven op de Noordpool. Toen het ijs en de onophoudelijke sneeuwstormen begonnen, ging het volk op de vlucht, geleid door de vader der Laven, de Grote Laaf, en zijn vrouw, Oermoeder Lot. Ze konden geen andere kant op dan door de grond en zo begonnen de Laven te graven. Tijdens de tocht legde de Grote Laaf het Grote Lood; liefdevol maakten de Laven een beeld van hem en dat namen ze mee op hun verdere reis door de aarde. Na een avontuurlijke reis die eeuwen duurde, kwamen ze uiteindelijk in de Efteling terecht, nadat ze hun kreet "Alaaf!" hoorden.

The fairy tale behind the Laven, which can be viewed in the Loerhuys, tells that during the winter for the 1990 season, the Laven had erected their settlement in the Efteling after a long, harsh journey through the earth. Many years ago the Laafs lived at the North Pole. When the ice and the constant snowstorms began, the people fled, led by the father of the Laafs, the Great Laaf, and his wife, Great Mother Lot. They could go no other way than through the ground and so the Laafs began to dig. During the trip the Grote Laaf laid the Great Lead; the Laafs lovingly made an image of him and they took it on their journey through the earth. After an adventurous journey that lasted centuries, they eventually ended up in Efteling, after they shouted "Alaaf!" heard.
