Thank you for the good advices. I learned this piece 50 years ago, probably with the same challenges you mentioned in this video. Playing it slow is probably not so well understood when you are young. So it is very good advice. What is helping me personally most is 1. play without music sheet 2. keep the ego under control. Do not try to be better than you are. Relax. 🤓😋🥰. Do not be too stubborn on fingering and melody. Make it your own piece.

What do you mean by ¨play without music sheet¨? I can't learn it by ear.
@UFO6600
@UFO6600 2 жыл бұрын
@@GordonLF Dear Hector, I normally do also not learn by ear, although this is sometimes a good exercise. Only when I forgot a piece or part of it, I try to reconstruct it first by ear. Or if a piece does not sound perfect to my ear, often the beginning or end, I change it by ear. But what I mean with play without music sheet is, do not use music sheets WHILE playing. When I had to play the piano as a child I could only play if I had music sheets in front of me. So I could sort of play like a robot and „sleep“ during playing. In this way I could not really play from the heart. When I learned Chinese a few years ago, my brain was sort of reprogrammed. After that I could learn sort of „picture like“ and not using much music theory or intelligent sequencing. Now also my ego has vanished, so I am also not afraid to make failures anymore, I even enjoy it and find it funny sometimes. Hope this long clarification helps. It is sometimes difficult to explain things in one sentence 😋🤓🥰. Have fun.

I only wish all this information was there 20+ years ago... Due to injuries, during military service, I will never be able to play the pieces I always wanted to play. I can barely play Malaguena, But seeing such a robust catalog of videos and dialog on playing and territorials. You are doing amazing work. In today's society this kind of dedication gets lost. Asturias was the piece I was working on last and before my life went to the left. I always liked the harmonics. Lord bless and keep you and your family. The world needs you light. keep doin what you do or those songs will be forgotten!

i played banjo for 60 years. never followed good advice like yours, because there just wasn't so much advice (for banjo, anyway!) because i practiced all my bad habits, they 'sounded' okay until i started to really age. this turned out to be critical for my own musicianship. now, my physical limitations make my bad habits impossible to sustain... i practice employing proper hand position, wrist alignment, fretting everyday. progress is very slow, but it really doesn't matter if i 'run out of time'.

A slow pace with relaxed hands and curved fingers to minimize injury and develop muscle memory and a suggestion to avoid the development of personal nuance or the introduction of the written tonal variation until the piece is entirely under your fingers. A measured and careful meditation upon foundation and intent meant to blossom with time and practice. A scientific approach. So rare and worthy to hear advise from a master to a nascent student of the classical guitar!

But no matter how much this friendly woman explains - you will never get close to her playing. Never! Ana Vidovic is one of if not THE leading guitar player in the whole world. To be able to play similar to her you must begin at the age of 6 or 7 with a good teacher.

As a Jazz and Blues guitarist, I am subscribing. All you mention here applies to basic mastery of mechanics. Warm-ups are well mentioned. No doubt a metronome time feel is essential. Guitar setup is very important..one string too high in nut or saddle is detrimental at times. Noone has our hands..learn to make adjustments at saddles and nuts! Also frets have to be as near perfectly leveled. Hard to find good repair folks. Takes time for guitars to settle in and most don't take the time needed as repair folks. Light strings are more forgiven but tones can sound the same as well as approaches gleaned from books. Life experiences determine artistry which may not reap financial benefits as much as clones of others often do. I studied Trombone also but mainly self taught on guitar. Had to mention things rarely mentioned by guitarists who don't know anything except to play them.

Asturias is a piece Im pretty sure I will never be able to play, not even wrong. But good advices are always welcome, specially from the one that play the piece so well. As a funny fact, not sure why when watching and hearing Ana (or any other classical master) talk about how to position your hands and elbows, the first thing that comes to my mind is the video from Tommy Emmanuel playing Classical Gas and doing all the things "wrong". I guess different types of music requires different skills.

I love this classical one! It's the first that I learned while learning playing classical guitar together with learning the notes. I'm not far yet, but I'll get there 😁 There is however a little weird movement going on on my right hand. It's going up- and downwards while playing the strings. Not a big issue but it's strange. It's like my hand is dancing at the rhythm 😂 So that's a technique that I need to get rid off. If I fix my hand with my pinky it's ok, but I'm not allowed to do so..... If I can play Asturias within a year I'll post it on my channel 😁.

1. Warm up beforehand, making sure that your wrist is straight, you’re playing with your fingertips, and your right hand is positioned straight 2. Play very slowly at the beginning 3. Practice with a metronome (don’t change the tempo while playing) 4. When practicing, don’t play with “Colors” 5. Practice by sections 6. You don’t have to follow exactly the indications (ex: fingerings) 7. Don’t get discouraged, it takes time but slow practice always pays off

I learnt the beginning of this piece a long time ago because the 2 first sections are easy while being pretty impressive and rewarding. I tried to learn the 3rd, but I didn't had the level to play it properly, so I kind of adapt it by "reversing the tremolo" because it's so much more natural for me. So instead of playing the si string, then the mi string, I'm doing the contrary. Don't do that. It's a pain to change, and the speed you gained playing that way will be halfed because you're not uses to practice the correct one, and it's very frustrating.

all i know about guitar i learned by my own , never had teachers never gone to conservatory, i´ve just started as a child learning mayor and minor chords first, i learned my first scale like 5 years later to beging playing, then i bouth my own electric guitar where i learned more scales and improved mi tecninc cos i wanted to play fast as steve vay or Ynwien Malsteem , but i learned all that way the hard way but i think it was more beautifull becouse i discovered all by myself, i feel like a blind man, when i think in a sound my fingers just know where to be . The hard challenge about this song is not how fast it is or how complex chords are, but the pain on my tumb jajaja thats the challenge, beside i just play for fun, so something i just want to play a song before go to college or to work i know the full song but never warm up because dont have time jajajaja but wen i have the time to play more songs before asturias then i can play this very fast.
