Yep. She was frantically looking around for something to hold her up as she weathers the storm. She sees her piano, and then clings to it. So, the piano, the object itself, is holding her up, as well as what that object is utilized for, holds her up. Her music saves her, as it keeps her grounded and helps her keep her head above water. Such brilliant poetic visuals and lyricism! Taylor amazes me. Every. Single. Time. A very deep and prolific women.

Cardigan is part of a trilogy love triangle. Cardigan is Betty’s point view years after high school. The song August is from the other girls perspective and the song Betty is from the boy, Jame’s perspective. Each song is great on their own, but as a trilogy, it’s brilliant.

So, because of the pandemic, they had to be careful where and how they filmed this… she did her own hair and makeup and picked a nightgown out of her own closet. She also wore an earpiece so she was the only person on set to hear the music - she was that paranoid about it being leaked to the press. (No one, not even her label, knew about folklore - outside of the few people who worked on the album - until a few hours before it was released, and this video came out at the same time.)

It’s a FICTIONAL trilogy on this album. Each song is from a different persons perspective. *Betty - is James’ perspective as a young man who was dating both Betty and Augustine during the summer he was 17. *August - the perspective of Augustine during the “summer fling” who sleeps with James (who already has a girlfriend, Betty) but she wants to believe it’s real love *Cardigan - Betty’s perspective is from an adult and looking back on this young heartbreak from when she was young and dating James and when he cheated on her with Augustine. Taylor is truly a genius! Who else would have a trilogy on the album?? I have never seen anyone do this before but it is fabulous.

if you look at the sweater, it is way too big -- it is his. He did come back, and she's remembering the early magic, the wonderful early times, the heartbreak of losing him -- and he showed back up. So when she gets all down remembering, he's there with the sweater to warm her up. She says something about it in the documentary film, The Long Pond Studio Sessions (on Disney+). She performs the album acoustically, with her principle co-writers, Aaron Dessner of The National, and Jack Antonoff (fun, and Bleachers). Aaron wrote a lot of the underlying music, and produced most of the album; Jack assisted with something like 6 of the songs on the standard version. People who add music or production to her songs get writing credits, because she writes very fast, and often changes it on the fly, if a better phrase occurs to her. In the film, they will talk about the songs, and what inspired them.

Ha- you went there- you said MOTHER! The way you say phrases, "paint that picture", "Taylor Suw-ift!" Folklore and Evermore are the best! Followed by Reputation. So many of the songs intertwine with certain phrases at the beginning tracks- like foreshadowing, and then the same phrase will be echoed later. If you love the visuals, then The first track on the sister album, EVERMORE, is a similar one in some ways. But yeah most of the songs are just ...storytelling-mainly fictional but the others I'm not sure about... Anyway, can I be in the wolf pack please?
