Hollywood studio New Regency has won the rights to make a film about the six Tongan teenagers stranded for 15 months on an uninhabited island in the mid-1960s. 55 years on and one of the six survivors, Tevita Siola'a, spoke to John Pulu about their epic adventure that will be on the big screen.

I hope this movie gets made! We need some hope for humanity! I think the motion picture industry has a responsibility to show us a brighter future, and not just a dystopian zombie apocalypse! Lord of the Flies was frightening. But the reality is so much more hopeful!

Has this film ever come to fruition? It's such an incredibly fascinating true story and I would absolutely love to see a Hollywood film about it as long as it's 100% accurate and not puffed up or exaggerated for $$$. It's already overwhelming and powerful as it is. It doesn't need to be sensationalized. Does anyone know if they actually made it?

Honestly, with all the political correct nonsense these days I wouldn't have too much hope for a good movie, though the content and story of the boys is amazing.

Exactly my thoughts! I rarely watch movies made after 2005-2008 - 90% of them is bull*** , even if the imdb ratings are good - the ratings are ridiculous. Better watch the old movies, with traditional family values, REAL heroes and not modern propaganda agendas.

One of the best stories ever, but Hollywood will ruin it. They will also ruin the part about them praying daily to God. They won’t even allow it in the movie most likely and if that is the case they should not allow Hollywood to even make the movie

It is sad to hear that the 90 year old Peter Warner, the Sailor who saved these Tongan heros from the island of Ata, died tragically after his yacht (Astor) capsized during an attempt to cross the Richmond River bar at Ballina, on the New South Wales North Coast on Tuesday 13 April 2021 (just 2 days ago). Mr Warner was the heir of a wealthy Australian media magnate, Sir Arthur Warner, but gave up his inherited role as a future media tycoon at the age of 17 to fish and sail the world in the hope of becoming a great sailor. He proved that by winning the Sydney to Hobart yaught race 3 times in the 1960s (the same decade in which he save the Tongan boys). His decision not to enter into the business world and went to sea is a masterstroke. May he Rest In Peace.

crazy how Lord of The Flies, a fictional book, had such an immense effect on culture and the way we view humanity, but this true story shows us that human nature is not savage. Human nature is cooperation and empathy

Perhaps the difference is these young men were older and were already friends and they also believed in praying together ....the Lord of the Flies had young boys and not close friends and they did not pray together....we are sinful at heart and need Jesus in our lives to wash away our sinful nature . That's why the world such a mess...people have rejected Christ and His forgivenenss and gone their own way. Only Jesus Christ can mend broken hearts and relationships and deal with our sinful nature . He is coming back likely in 2022.

@@ChickenLordThe God created morality, you only have a sense of “morality” because you were born with it. You were born with it because human beings are designed with God’s law written on their hearts. Any benevolence in existence in the world right now, exists solely because of God. Any goodness inside of you comes from God. You, completely of your own volition, are incapable of true unselfish good.

Knowing Hollywood, they’ll probably add fantasy characters into the mix, like walking and talking rocks (Russel Crowe’s 2014 Noah flop), thus ruining the natural human element.

Shit like that happens when it's some execs in the office looking at nothing but numbers on ledgers thinking that they know what's best & insist on being the ones to helm the films produced. keep those shitasses out, give full creative rights to the directors & even have such consultants on board, & the films would do fine.

Different cultures and even different parts of the same culture view things differently. Lord of the Flies is a novel written by one man. I suspect that a group of white, privileged kids might be more like Lord of the Flies, Polynesian kids with a basic fundamentalist Christian upbringing might not be. Obviously these kids were able to view their 15 months on the island as a gift and treat it that way. I had never heard of this incident till yesterday and can't wait to see the movie if it gets made.

I hope this movie is made but I fear the funders/producers will wreck it. (Excuse the pun). Arnon Milchan has the rights I think. He/they should not water down/dilute the Judeo-Christian faith angle of the story. It really should be filmed on Ata Island itself aswell to make it as authentic as possible. Sure the logisitical problems will be great but it will be worth it for the audience. I think also it should be with actual Tongan actors speaking in the Tongan language with subtitles, (the authenticity angle again!) and with English bits, e.g. the rescue. There is plenty of interesting elements in the true story to sustain a two and a half hour movie narrative and to captivate an audience. If the producer, writer and director get it right this could be a 90%+ movie on Rotten Tomatoes. Note: William Golding had a certain atheistic/existentialist/satanic frame of reference when he wrote "Lord of the Flies" and of course it is a fictional story whilst the Six Tongan Castaways story is non-fiction.
