i don't understand the weird "cooking genetics" stuff that certain contestants bring up every season. Example: Risotto Average Chef: Yeah im doing Risotto with X ingredient which I will elevate by using a little big of Y spice and Z vegetable. Those weird chefs: I'm actually 1/128 italian, 3/64 japanese and 7/1024 african. So i decided to go back to my roots and really decided to put my whole history on my plate. Thats why i have to make a risotto with african spices to really tell you who i am. They always act like they lived in italy or Japan for 300 years while most of their connection to those is that a distant great-great-uncle married an Italian woman 60 years ago.

Think about all the homecooks that applied to join this show and out of all of them Nathan gets selected as one of the contestants, when he cant even fucking rice or a burger. Shows how much this show worries about cooking ability. I read somewhere that the psychological vetting for this show is pretty deep and thorough, which I imagine is part of finding content characters.
