From Chicago..Tony was and still is very much loved here, not only for his skills but also he was just a nice guy, very laid back, chilled..He took a lot of crap , not because of him but because of Krause, we all remember the Olympics , but i think he gained the respect at the end from MJ and Scottie.

True. He definitely deserve his jersey on the top of the United Center. If it's not only "American thing"....which would be so unfair to Toni.

Toni was used as a stairway to success and not even documented well at all in the Last Dance. I was Bull's fan back in 90s, had watched all the games live. Without him, the run for 2nd three peat '96-'98would never even happen.

@@gialeviashvili6328 I didn't know that, to be frank with you. I only know that Toni was picked on everything even his hair in his early days by some teammates. And they just perceived him as some European player and the Krause's boy, who came into their territory with better contracts. Even sports spectators also undermined him and made up a lot of fake stories which were untrue. Back in those days, it wasn't easy at all, cos, sorry to say this, but some Americans knew nothing and respect nothing beyond their wall.

@@panther7681 Still wrong. Like i said, Kukoc did good with the bulls. No disrespect, but without Kukoc, a reliable back up SF earning the same salary of Toni would have suffice. They may not win 72 and 69 games in 96 and 97 but chip will surely go to bulls. In fact you can take out Toni's contribution in the finals statistically and see that bulls would still have won.

Kukoc had so much potential and talent but never really got the opportunity to really shine in the NBA. He needed to be in a position as the ball handler like he was mostly in the euro leagues where he could pass off the dribble set up plays and get into rhythm where he would be clutch and could use his mind to score and win. He was phenomenal in that position but he could play in any position. They put him in this fairly static small forward position where he rarely handled the ball and usually came off the bench. That ruined his confidence and never had an opportunity after to build on a team with help in his proper role. Had he been brought over and especially if he was brought over sooner and was put in a position like luka doncic he would have showcased his talents and been one of the best players in history imo. Triple double and assist records would have been easily been broken and would have been hard to top .
@panther76814 жыл бұрын
Yep, he was under utilised by the Bulls. I prefer his games back in Europe with Jugoplastika n Benetton Treviso where the coach just let him have the ball and see what he would want to do with it..Neverthless, his games with NBA were spectacular too. Just think about the scores he'd made with such limited time he had. Also, Toni didn't come off the bench, he was exploding off the bench!!!

darko galic I’m hoping another documentary will be made that does Toni justice. Seems like The Last Dance was all about Michael Jordan and he had a lot of creative control in what material was included - I doubt he’d want somebody as good as Kukoc to get too much of the spotlight. If anything, the documentary made me fall blind love with Toni even more because he is a stark contrast to MJ - Toni is sweet, humble, and an all-around good player that can play from any position.
