In 2023, the average annual tuition for primary school was $221 and $536 for secondary school. Public schools are generally free, but some may charge voluntary contributions. Parents pay for school excursions (field trips) and most kids here take their lunch to school, or buy it from the school tuck shop (canteen), Plus our kids wear school uniforms so this is a one time purchase for a year or two! I don't understand why Americans don't stand up and fight back against all the things that are wrong in your country, only the people can make change, your government works for you not the other way round! I hope you have a happy week!😄

Did you know Tonia, Americans living and working overseas not only have to pay taxes in the country they work in. They also have to continue paying tax in the US. To avoid this US citizens would relinquish their US citizenship, However the US government cottoned on to this and increased the fee to dissuade this. The US is the only country that does this. I don`t think they want you to leave.
@barrybbq120 сағат бұрын
Two things. First of all I hope the US immigrants are aware we are not a particularly religious country, and on the whole we are very happy with that. I know the Americans embrace religion very very passionately. We don't have a gun culture anywhere near the same level of fanaticism as the US does.

When I was a young man I purchased my first rifle at 17 yrs of age but at the time you could obtain a rifle license at 16. Everyone had guns in the town I grew up in, numerous guns actually and nobody killed anyone. In the 1950's, 60's, 70's and early 80's you could have given every Australian a gun and they would have stood shoulder to shoulder, mass immigration has changed that because today you couldn't tell friend from foe. All firearm deaths today come from criminal gangs who have no problem obtaining illegal guns.

I used to talk to an American from Arkansas, a Canadian from Toronto and a Brit from Stafford on a chat program called Paltalk. We could chat about anything that we thought of and how the day or night was going, Except 2 major things. we were not allowed to talk religion or politics with Americans including our yank friend unless we wanted to start world war 3 with him. I sat in a few open chat rooms when I first started on Paltalk and it was often stated in the chat NOT to talk Politics or Religion. Doesn't matter here in Oz. if you don't like what you hear, just walk away, no need to get riled up and cause a hissy fit.

The new one has a device that sits next to my bed & reads it automatically at 2.00am in the morning every so often & is sent to the hospital via the telephone, And not to mention several trips in the Ambulance . And the Total cost to me was Nil, Zero, Zilch. Why would I not Love my Country.

Same here - 72 yrs old : lung cancer surgery in 1999, no cost. Aortic aneurysm surgery 2024 - cost me $30 for a taxi to and from the hospital. I would never want to live anywhere else than this free stable, caring, multicultural and mostly tolerant society... And yes - like the USA we are a confederacy of States. Voting is compulsory, with ranked preferential voting, so the country's Parliament generally reflects the middle ground with only the occasional extremist...

I just have to clear up a misconception with regard to our healthcare system in Australia, it is not free as a Medicare Levy is paid through our ATO (your IRS) it works pretty well and there's no fear of going bankrupt if you happen to become ill, Australians can also pay in to a health fund to gain faster access to some procedures for example I had both knees replaced through Medicare for the cost of $100 but had to wait 11 months whereas my friend who is in a health fund had both his done straight away but it cost him $45,000, people are dropping out of health funds in Australia as they are becoming stupidly expensive.

Just had prostate surgery left and right hip replacement over the last 2 years on private health cover. the cost to me was just over 4000. All 3 ops were performed with 2-3 weeks after diagnosis. I would have to wait up to 2 years on Medicare. it was money well spent. I am not rich, retired bus driver but the first bill I cover every year is my private health cover. BTW I have had 12 day surgeries, the same each op preformed within a week. At 71 a member of the local men shed where we all have had major surgeries I have never heard of anyone being charged 45000, quite the reverse. BTW you can elect if on private health cover for the surgery to be done on Medicare if you are willing to wait.

We've been in Perth for 30 years.and brought our kids up here. It's fantastic for families. All cities in Australia are the same modern, laid back lifestyle, great weather and we don't take sh*t from gruberment. Public schooling has additional costs for parents so not completely free. For a University or college education, you can apply for a government loan which only needs to be paid back once you start earning over a certain amount annually. The only downside of Australia, is it is expensive.

It is interesting that many Americans feel the need to denigrate their government and to aggressively assert their resistance or contempt for the national government. This post is well in this tradition and can't resist the childish slur "gruberment". Australia is a modern representative democracy, not without its flaws but nevertheless it effectively delivers a range of necessary social and health services and ensures via legislation that wages and conditions are maintained at acceptable levels. This is a far cry from the dog eat dog policies prevalent in the US. I hope you and your family continue to enjoy your life in WA.

Not to mention our food standards that are amongst the highest in the world. Eat Aussie food for a while after leaving America, and you'll definitely start feeling the difference. Even our fast food is higher quality. Australian food companies would go bankrupt if they used as many chemical ingredients as they get away with using in America. Not to say that you can't find some imported American food products over here. We like people to be happy in Australia. Food can help people feel a little less homesick. A lot of us will at least try some food from your country. But we know that it's not good for us. We have some American food brands in our supermarkets. They'd just taste a bit different, having been made with our quality of ingredients. Oreos and Ritz, for example. What I find confusing is that you can buy a bottle of ketchup in Australian supermarkets. But you can't buy Australian tomato sauce in American ones.

Hi Tonia, new Aussie subscriber here. I won't go through the pros and cons of each topic mentioned in this video but for schooling, which has increased in price through the decades, as I'm a 50 year old but with schooling specifically I went to all public schools, no problems and yes it was free but there were costs for stationary, school uniforms, excursions, lunch at the canteen or bring it from home and extra tuition if required, which generally would be about 3-400 bucks AUD/year, give or take, depends how wealthy your parents were. Now this was in the 80s so not sure if it's still the same. When I got married (both military) we sent our kid to a prestigious school called the The Southport School (TSS), which back in the early 2000s was about $30K + some change per year, F*ckin near bankrupted us and in the end he joined the Army like us...waste of money, but at least he was happy.

Free healthcare ? My wife had to have an operation done by a specialist who only operated in a certain private hospital. We have medicare like everyone else and even as aged pensioners we continued to pay for private health insurance thinking we would be fully covered if anything went wrong with our health.. When the bills came in we had a gap of $3000 to pay, When I asked our private health insurer what was going on they said they could not come to an agreement with this surgeon on his fee so they only paid the govts. recomended charge for that procedure. Apparently there is no cap on what a surgeon can charge you so we were up for the difference. The girl at the health insurer was embarrassed and offerred us 2 months free coverage as a bit of a compensation. It was disapointing to say the least thinking we would be fully covered once we retired only to find that we were not - the only plus is that in the US for the same procedure we probably would have had to sell our house. The girl also advised us in future if we are in the same and need surgery ask the surgeon what our out of pocket expense will be and try and negotiate a better deal - are you kidding why the hell are we bothering to continue paying for a fortune for health insurance ?

Three days after the surgery I was taken by ambulance to a rehab. hospital for the next two weeks before flying home. The fuel costs, accommodation and air travel home I claimed on Victorian Isolated Patients and Travel Assistance Scheme (VIPTAS) The surgery set me back $2,700, which the surgeon had told me about prior to my surgery. Where can you get two and a half weeks accommodation with excellent care, individual and group pyhsio. sessions twice a day and delicious food, and a bonus trip in a transport ambulance for $2,700? OH! And all for a total knee replacement. I recommend having private health insurance you need to shop around for your GP and specialists. My GP doesn't charge me over the rebate...so I pay zilch!

@@eddykate3700 lucky you this one did charge over and above the scheduled fee by a long way. its ok to shop around if there is more than 1 specailist in your city. We have private health insurance with one of the biggest insurers in Australia.. Accomodation didnt cost us anything it was only the surgeons fee. You might think $3000 is nothing but for some people like pensioners its a lot of money especially when you are paying a fortune to have private health insurance on top of it.

G'day, The health care system is not quite what is promoted. For example several years ago I had both knees replaced. As this was deemed an "Elective" surgery I was out of pocket >$40k. The following year I had heart surgery and only ever had a few out of pocket costs for indirect expences. As for the firearms information, the stats supplied are misleading and are diliberatly worded to mislead both American and Australian facts.

Australian Health care is good - maybe not as good as UK. Toilets are better, no splash back. Cost of living is high, we pay a lot for electricity etc and house prices across the nation have soared in last 20 years making it near impossible for anyone to own a house

She had to give up her Gun to come here but when people ask her about i she says she doesn't feel that she needs it here as it feels much safer here .

This is just feeding you a nice story.

Hey Tonia, come on over here and check it out for yourself. Okau so we pack lunches for our kids to take to school, but the flip side is we also have a school canteen, usually with awesome, healthy food that you can pay for if you don't feel like preparing a lunch in advance. Also, don't bother comparing health systems. You guys so failed at this the rest of the planet is laughing at you.

Taxes pay for schooling, health, infrastructure etc down in Aus & NZ
@bernadettelanders730618 сағат бұрын
I’m Aussie in my 70s, I know it all comes from our taxes, but I hardly ever thought about it much, could still go on holidays, shop as a teenager and buy stacks,was able to save money. The taxes they took out definitely didn’t send us broke. Sometimes mum made my lunch, sometimes I bought it. It wasn’t free, but definitely wasn’t expensive.

@ Well I didn’t know your accent was stronger in different parts of NZ. Must ask my friend more about that. Well I guess it is different here in Aus as well. I’m from Victoria as people from South Australia sound just a tad English to me. I stayed with friends who moved to Queensland. They said, when we go shopping listen to what some say at end of as sentence - they said ‘Hey’. I had to muffle my giggles when I heard it lol. They call a school bag a Port and a potato cake a scallop. We talk different lingo in different states here. But I love the kiwi accent, sounds like a cross between an English accent and Māori accent, it’s gorgeous. Oh & my kiwi friend and I have come up with the perfect resolve to who started the pavlova. I’m not telling, it’s perfect 😂

schooling in Australia will vary from state to state.. but generally as parent you pay for supplies and uniforms, and excursions... the rst is government funded... For University the government ( FederaI I think ) fund , through what they call HEX.. ( not sure what it is call now ) after you have finished uni and are earning over a curtain amount ( was $50000 but it has changed ) you have to pay back the government a percentage from your wages..... the amount you owe the government will depend on what you study... One of my daughters studies education and didn't have a HEX debt as teachers were needed... my other daughter studied Law and her debt was crazy ...

Hi Tonia. People need a very compelling reason to leave their country of origin to come and live in Australia. Coming to live in Australia because it seemed like a good idea at the time is not the way to go. You are happy where you live now, so my advice is stay put. But certainly strongly consider visiting Australia.
@robertclothier359721 сағат бұрын
Ya certainly got that right. Read a heartbreaking on line comment recently from a young American lass who'd been here for 7 yrs. Things hadn't worked out for as she had envisaged & she was in the process of moving back. Think she'd been seduced by the fantasy rather than the reality, poor thing.
@gregoryparnell277523 сағат бұрын
Sadly we do take lots of things for granted. It is so hard not to when almost everything is handed to you on a platter. And still not everyone is as happy as some of these videos make out .With the current cost of living pressure everyone is whining & blaming the government. It is the same in almost every country but the population tend to think it is only happening in their neck of the woods & it's the Government instead of blaming the big Multi-National companies that found out when Covid hit that they could jack up the price of goods because of supply shortages & those that could afford to would keep paying in order to have the things they needed & the poor could just cut back on things. Now they are just seeing how high they can Jack up the prices before the public dig in their toes & fight back. That is only my opinion.
@ToniaElkins18 сағат бұрын
@@gregoryparnell2775 So true! They did the same thing here with the price of goods. There are people with real needs in this country but I see wealthy people online complaining about the smallest most insignificant things all the time. It makes me sick. Plus all the people on tik Tok who are literal millionaires but they sit there all day in livestreams begging for money. It’s just gross. No matter what country we’re talking about, the people need to be treated better. Especially the ones who need help. 💜

Unemployment figures should be taken with a grain of salt, if the underemployed were not considered as employed, then that figure quoted would be much higher. Employment figures should only include the full time employees, for a true picture of a country's economic health.

Australia is good but not as great as the video makes it out to be. For example, education is almost free, but the standards / outcomes today are low. Hospitals are free, but waiting lists can be years for many procedures. But yes, the climate of Sydney Brisbane and Perth is good. Not so good in the other capitals. People in Melbourne will whinge about that statement, which is typical for them.
