🍺 A Story That Started in Havana
Founded in 1888 on the banks of the Almendares River, Cervecería La Tropical was once Cuba’s largest and most iconic brewery, producing over 60% of the country’s beer by 1958. The brewery was more than a place to drink-it was an experience, featuring live music, tropical gardens, and even a baseball stadium where the infield dirt was made from crushed beer bottles!
Its signature creation, La Original Ámbar Lager, became a symbol of Cuban craftsmanship. But after the Cuban Revolution, the brewery was seized, and the Blanco Herrera and Kohly families fled to Miami, leaving behind a legacy that would one day be reborn.
In 1998, Manny Portuondo, a descendant of the founders, made it his mission to bring La Tropical back to life. After years of dedication, he partnered with Heineken, and in 2021, the new Cervecería La Tropical opened its doors in Miami’s Wynwood district, complete with a tropical beer garden, taproom, and live music stage-a modern tribute to the original Cuban experience.

The Jardines La Tropical botanical garden recreates the magic of the original Havana location, while the on-site kitchen, led by Chef Cindy Hutson, serves up Caribbean-inspired dishes that pair perfectly with our handcrafted beers.
