My old theater group did this show last year, and they cast the costume mistresses daughter ( yes the directors favorite) as Maria and she was an alto. I'm not sure how it went cause I dont live there any more, but I doubt it was very good

I tried to sing along to the soundtrack of the original cast recording of A West Side Story awhile back, but it's so hard because the original girl who played Maria is a higher soprano than me. When I try to sing Maria's parts I go too high.😅 This was great practice. 😊

Need practice but I sing the low notes as a Bass Baritone and the high notes as Tenor. I have only been singing since Feb 2019 (now 85) and originally I was a good Bass Baritone. Thanks to Anna (my coach) I now am a wonderful Bass Baritone (Johnny Cash, Robeson) but with exercises my voice changes quality and becomes tenor at about C4. I can make a noise at G5 and always slide to at least E5 so in principle I should be able to hit all the high notes but since this is new to me I need a lot of practice.
