I thought I'd be devastated to leave the house and town we'd lived in for 36 years 3 years ago - so many memories both happy and sad, children grown and moved away, pets come and gone and all the renovations we'd done over that time - the house was twice as big when we left than when we moved in. Strangely we locked the door and drove away without a backward glance and no regrets. Now I sometimes feel how the timing must just have been right when it wasn't before. You will soon make your new home your own and build happy memories in it - looking forward to seeing what you do in the coming months 🙂

Oh Toni,I have felt the same .I must of had rose tinted glasses on because the reality of it all ,the stress was over whelming and the feeling of what have I done opened up the floodgates.We was also left having to clear someone’s else’s things. I couldn’t use the cooker for a fortnight as it was so dirty.We are a year on in this house and it has started to feel like a home.It takes time but you will make it into a loved and welcoming home.❤

This vlog brought back so many memories from 6 months ago. We left our family home of 23 years which I had decorated over the years to our taste. I was really excited for the move as I was moving back into the street that I had grown up in. The completion day went fine but the house had been empty for over a year so it was only when I started to open wardrobe doors and kitchen cupboards and got close up to skirting boards and the bathroom that I got to see the dirt and grim I cried for days and cried whilst I was deep cleaning. The amount of cleaning products I got through was unreal and the garden was like our very own over grown forest, it took a tree surgeon 2 days to chop it down and us 2 skips to make the garden safe for our dog to be able to go down, but I'm so looking forward to transforming our new house we are awaiting a date for the building work to begin on our new extension as the conservatory where the extension is going leaks and is coming away from the house also having a new bathroom fitted and boiler at the same time as the extension then we can work through the house one room at a time. Karen, I feel like you have just written this for me as I verbalised it 😰 in in the same boat 😂🫣 trying to stay focused and cleaning is usually a great escape for me where I concentrate on the task and get stuck in but my word I’m so sick of cleaning! I gone through about 15 pairs of marigolds 😂 Good luck with your new home lovely and it won’t be too long that we see our visions coming together and our little homes looking lovely xxx

We moved 2 yrs ago, and we had been in our old house for 27 years. We loved the property, but the area had gone downhill in that time. We grew to hate living there! We are now in a small village in rural Essex, and absolutely it . There is a proper community here, and it’s like going back 50 years! I scrubbed our new bathroom for 2days too! My husband practically dismantled the shower, but we couldn’t get years of filth off! In the end we replaced the whole shower cubicle. Now we know it’s clean 😂 Good luck in your new home 🏡

Once it's got your stamp completely over it, and you make memories like your first Christmas, it'll feel like home. In old houses I prefer it when skirtings ripped off and new skirting added it makes such a difference... You can get skirting that's higher than the existing so the walls don't have to be skimmed. I like wallpaper too for a cosy feel. Big hug Toni your being brave xxx

OMG, I can so relate to how you felt. I thought at the time I was being silly! After looking for what felt like eternity we rushed into buying an old bungalow. On moving in day the front door fell off and conservatory leaked! It smelt musky and had floral carpets and floors and carpets were really dirty. I was so upset and 😢 it just did not have the same "coming home feeling" like our first home. But we did it up and what a transformation 😊. All our hard work paid off, can't wait to follow your journey xx

Oh no the wee on the carpets! I know that feeling Tony looking up at the top of the mountain from the bottom but it will be worth it because that house has real character and charm. Although your last home was manageable and done to perfection, that house will be amazing once done you can see that from the little bit you've shown. Keep your privacy great idea and enjoy this new chapter. You will get there with it all just keep chipping away. Can't wait to see it, the living room already looks gorgeous! I’m glad you’ve made the move Toni I know you’ve been trying for a while. I’m loving the bits we’ve seen. I’ve been there though with buyers remorse, when we were first time Buyers we bought a house and got the keys at 4.30 on a wet November day and the previous owner had even taken the light bulbs….. I cried for days. What had we done, it was dirty and left messy etc and I was gutted. After a few weeks of starting to make it our own we started to love it again so I’m sure this will be your dream soon xx

The worst thing I found when I moved to my current home nearly 30yrs ago was the neighbours. They stood around watching us move in. My immediate neighbour stepped forward and said, 'We understand you've got a dog. We reported the neighbour the other side becsuse their dog barks all the time.' Well that was a warning shot across the bows! What a welcome. House was not what it appeared to be. I could write a book but I'd better stop here. LOL Your house will look fab, you will get there. Hi Toni, I can so relate to your sadness. We have moved recently and it was not the house that we viewed. It was dirty and it was overwhelming at time I wanted to go back to my lovely home that I had left. Now after much hard work with plastic gloves, bleach and smelliest it it so much better. Nothing worse than cleaning up other peoples dirt. My carpet cleaner was a godsend, it then begins to feel like home when everything is clean. Good luck, enjoy the journey xx
