Bro, if you let the net hang on the Bamboo you won't get any fish trapped on it. You have to let it sink to the bottom of the riverbeds. And if you're keeping it overnight, put the net on the shallow water as the fish come out in the night to search food towards the shallow. Try this bro. M from Manipur and we always does it this way when we go for overnight fishing.

yes and puttin a pole instead of that long stretch bamboo work best...put a rock that will let the pole standing and you have to let the net go along the river bed. use 2_3 pole standing to support net and you can collect your fish in the late night or morning...

do you have any idea about that river where he is fishing???? its Siang (Yarlung Tsangpo/Brahmaputra), it is very deep and the other side of the bank is very far. if it(net) sinks it might stuck as the rocks are sharp and lots of dead trees. who are the people who are familiar With the river is advising him not to keep going in the river, even if you know how to swim it is very less likely to make it out if you fell in wrong part of the river.
