Alva had that timeless gift of great style; like Tom Curren, the moves might get more acrobatic but style endures above all else.

@SillyTurtleSkating Man I don't see why his physical appearance concerns you. If hes a good guy and a skating pioneer that should be enough.

What's so rad about this guy? I've seen nobodies with pictures of them skating pools in 1975, I am pretty sure Alva didn't invent shit. Plus, look at guys like Duane peters that can actually stand up and grind coping still until this day and rip way harder than Alva not bragging about how they pioneered skating, Alva plateaued in 1978 and never got any better.

I've always wondered if TA was as big a dick as the Lords of Dogtown movie make him out to be. I mean no disrespect, the man was a major influence for me - serious and legit question, anyone...?
@misterslats2 жыл бұрын
He sure used to be. And he admits that now. He had a HUGE ego in the 70's and 80's. My friend was at Marina Del Ray skatepark in 1980 riding the keyhole and Tony was there too. There was a guy on rollerskates who was just doing handplants over and over on each wall. Tony dropped in on the guy's run and grinded right over his fingers when the guy was fully inverted in his handplant. That thing was commonplace for Dogtowners and especially Tony. That said, he is NOTHING like that today. Now he is humble, gracious, and down to Earth.
