Keep your eyes peeled around New Jacka$$, he's shady af. Also the reason I heard as to why Backlund wouldn't put Hogan over was because Hogan had zero Amateur wrestling background, therefore Bob didn't respect him whatsoever. That's why they had to have Sheik come in, because Sheik was a God and Backlund had no problem putting him over. Also it made more sense in the long run, it's easier and faster to do it that way than to turn Bob heel and build that heat between him and Hogan, when you have an established mega-heel like Sheik ready to make it happen quickly.
@johncastaneda80374 жыл бұрын
Backlund was corny as hell .
@Jim-Tuner4 жыл бұрын
Not quite. It was originally suggested that Backlund turn heel and then lose to Hogan. Backlund didn't want to turn heel so they transitioned the title through Iron Shiek to Hogan. Backlund didn't really put the Iron Sheik over. They did the finish where his manager threw in the towel. As punishment for not going along with the Heel turn, Bob Backlund headlined the WWE "B" and "C" shows for about six months and then was gotten rid of.

I have nothing but the utmost respect for Tony, but I have to respectfully disagree that if it didn't happen in the WWF/E it doesn't matter to the fans. When I think of Ric Flair, I think of all his time in the NWA, but especially his time in the WCW and the Four Horseman angle. When I think of Harley Race, I think of all his NWA matches, not the goofy stuff he did in the WWF in the mid to late 80's as King Harley. Yes, WWF/E has dominated the wrestling world since 1984, but it's not the end-all-be-all. And currently, I see more people talking about AEW than I do the WWE. Me personally, I tend to favor mostly the indie promotions and WWE's NXT, but I wouldn't say the WWE is putting on anything fantastic and memorable at the moment.

@@typatterson4513 I humbly disagree. At times, the WWWF, then the WWF, had far superior wrestling and production in comparison to any NWA program. And that's not a knock at the NWA, because, at times, they too have had superior wrestling and production to the WWWF/WWF. At the end of the day, it's all down to the wrestlers themselves. The majority of wrestlers living in the 1970's and 80's worked for the NWA, AWA, and the WWWF/WWF. When it comes to guys like Ric Flair and Harley Race, their best stuff was with the NWA. With Roddy Piper and Randy Savage, their best stuff was in the WWF. But it's all subject. I just think it's a little silly for a wrestler to think that one promotion is superior to another in regards to what the fan's perception is when I've seen so many regale of their fondness for the NWA over all others. All promotions have had their good and bad moments.

I love the NWA under Stu Bennett, it's refreshing yet the classic NWA, Whoa Momma, that is gold ! Brisco vs Race, Rhodes vs Flair, fantastic see-saw, high octane matches... I wasn't born in that heyday but I used to get the USA championship wrestling VHS in second hand stores and car boot sales in the UK..

I feel you but because of unprecedented mass marketing, promotion , corporate takeover & global positioning WWE Is The Icon! The undisputed king but as far as content we've seen better, but They dont have The Budget and or Overall Global Recognition of The WWE.

I had to laugh when Atlas said that New Jack wasn't even there, when Brody was murdered. Since New Jack wasn't there, what the hell would he know about anything? Atlas was THERE & New Jack wasn't, so New Jack needed to STFU about shit he not only didn't know, but wasn't even there to begin with. All that did was it made New Jack look like an ass.

Y'all can sit here are praise Tony Atlas all you want. New Jack always told the truth and Vince's boys always told what they were told to tell. That's why they didn't like New Jack and that's why New Jack didn't like them.

Tony is 100% right regarding Ric Flair, it wasn't until he came to the WWF that he really became a legend, yes his best work will forever be the WCW/NWA but his legend status only grew after his stints with WWF. Wrestling fans act like Flair was so much more before WWF but he really wasn't
@billywall77524 жыл бұрын
That’s BS. You’re telling me Flair wasn’t a legend before he came to the WWF? So I guess his legendary feud with Rhodes or his classic matches vs Race, Sting, Steamboat and others didn’t make Flair a legend?
@mrlaidback834 жыл бұрын
@@billywall7752 I'm not the biggest fan Ric Flair but he was definitely already a legend way before joining the WWF. I'd argue that the WWF gained a ton of legitimacy when Flair joined the company.

@@mrlaidback83 true. his match over nwa world title going 45 mins with rickt steamboat in 1989 made him legend imo. also he became legend in nwa also wcw in late 80's early 90's. he was wcw world champion in 1991. took wcw world title with him. coin real world champion. then preisdent jack tunney would block image wcw logo when flair would wear wcw world title in 1991.

Actually met Tony at a gym in Maine, granted I didn't recognize him till I heard him talk and he was a really cool down to earth guy. Also his comments on Jack are absolute gold without being explicit
