The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

I shamefully didn't listen to Tony Bennett all that much, and to be honest I didn't think about whether he was alive or dead. He seemed constant either way. But when you are reminded of someone through hearing about their death, their mortality becomes apparent, and you can't help but wish they really were constant. I am playing his music today as if enough repetition and volume could somehow bring him back, because there just aren't enough of his beautiful kind anymore.

What a voice. What’s really sad is how things have changed in the city. I’m in my mid 60’s and having grown up in the military, we were fortunate to go and see different and interesting places. One of them was San Francisco, so much to see and outside of some hippies, we didn’t worry about getting mugged. I remember riding the cable car and when it stopped we got out and helped turn it around and went the other way. May not seem like a big deal, it was for a 10 or 11 year old. We went to the Fisherman’s Wharf, walked the crooked street, saw the Giants play, stayed at the Presidio, seen the Golden Gate, Alcatraz and more, now though, no way sorry.

@@idaisabellefindler9086 _I Left My Heart in San Francisco_ was written in 1953 by aspiring song writers George Cory (music) and Douglass Cross(lyrics). After eight years of being rejected by numerous artists, the song finally came to the attention of Tony Bennett in 1961. Bennett recorded it in '62, and the rest is history. A little ♬Trivia: This now-iconic song was released by CBS as the B-side of "Once Upon A Time" by Tony Bennett in 1962. Radio DJs at the time, universally preferred 'I Left My Heart In San Francisco' and played it in regular rotation, leaving the A-side virtually unplayed.

Tony Bennett is a national treasure and has been so for eight decades. He's still kicking at 96. His performance in 2021 at age 95 was wonderful. His voice has always been is so perfect, it's such a gift.

Tony Bennett is now 99 years old. I truly love this man. He never drank, smoked, or even used filthy words. His wife is a wonderful woman.
