Major turned recession into boom. Blair delivered one term of stability and got the NHS into probably the best shape it has ever been in, though that's just from my experiences of it at the time. Brown kept the wheels on during the financial crisis - which was not his doing, after all. Cameron got same sex marriages onto the statute book, thus bringing us into the 21st century. May strengthened ties with Kenya. Johnson kept us from going down the tyrannical path adopted by other countries in the name of controlling COVID. MPs are not to be trusted making money for them selves as now become a priority above their position to run the country on behave of the people that voted for them. The conflict of interest seems to have gone by the way side thanks to Blair and Browns days. There was a conflict of interest when Mrs Blair purchased some property in London. The HoL, being unelected, can act as a braking mechnism, not a bulwark. It can force the HoC to double check but if a bill passes three times in the HoC, it is waved through and budgets cannot be stopped at all. The HoL, before Blair and Brown wrecked it with their cronies, was remarkably efficient and effective. There needs to be a ban on any more political appointments, hereditary peers, who care about the long term rather than short term, need to be brought back and for every person with a bias to one side of the political spectrum, there should be someone equally qualified from the other side. After that, the Commons needs to keep its grubby little hands out of it.

In response to the Treaty of Nice being unlawfully granted royal assent (which covertly left out our codified constitution and was treasinously passed into law), a committee of 68 barons got together in 1999 and lawfully (re) invoked Article 61 of the Magna Carta 1215, on 23rd March 2001. Since no one in authority has publicly revoked this invocation of Article 61 of the Magna Carta 1215, then common law takes presidence, and all acts and statutes of parliment are null and void from that date, because the Queen broke her coronation oath and gave up her sovereignty and her right to authorise royal assent. Tony Blair repealed the 1795 treason act in 1998 from capital punishment to life in prison, and now we know why. Ask this question to police and courts if you're ever stopped or taken to task for not obeying "acts and statutes" - "I stand under common law, so do you have authority to make a demand on me since Article 61 of the Magna Carta 1215 was invoked on 23rd March 2001". Anyone in office who publicly denies Article 61 of the Magna Carta 1215 is committing sedition, and anyone in office who acts against you under commercial law (acts and statutes of parliment), is committing high treason.

Firstly, the UK doesn't have a codified constitution, it is unwritten. Secondly, treason in the UK is defined as a "crime against the crown", which a monarch can hardly be accused of. And lasty, the 68 barons you referred to were not Barons, they were random people who started a petition. It had the support of three members of the house of lords and it went nowhere.
@GH-lo8vl Жыл бұрын
@@maxisussex - The UK does have a codified constitution, if you care to look it up. The crown represents the people so any act of treason is against the people. I never said she committed treason, I said she broke her oath. Finally, it doesn't matter how many barons were involved, they invoked article 61 which was never challenged, so therefore common law takes presidence. Do you actually know what common law is? Do you want me to tell you?
@maxisussex Жыл бұрын
@@GH-lo8vl The UK does not have a codified constitution, I don't need to look it up. I'm not sure you even know what it means. A codified constitution is a single document with or without amendments. British people's rights are set out via multiple, individual pieces of legislation, i.e. not codified. Secondly, the crown is not one and the same as the people. As for the number of barons, it is very simple, the number was 0. It was 68 commoners with the support of three Lords. They had no right to invoke anything, they were just random quacks. Common law is law set by precedence and custom, as in, it is NOT codified. You believe what you do because you lack the actual intelligence necessary to understand what you are talking about. It is like when you see a drunk chav being arrested and they're shouting, "you can't arrest me, I blah blah blah and that is the law. You don't know the law mate". I'm afraid Bob and yourself fall into that same category, hopefully without the drinking problems.

The Lords should be reformed, not abolished. The Lords should be a meritocracy of Junior, Life and Hereditary peerage. Blair was right to cull a lot of hereditary peers, but not all of them. Blair was a marxist at University. He was the wrong person to reform the Lords. Kier Starmer is the continuation of Blair. Accession committees could decide who moves up the meritocracy. Sons and daughters who inherit an hereditary peerage would enter the Lords as Junior peers. They should inherit the right to try to move up the meritocracy.

Something needs to be done with both these houses since they're certainly not serving the people of the U.K.. Here's a few suggestions to kick off 1. All politicians must declare their finances at the outset and each year to an independent watchdog that scrutinises their wealth on leaving office. 2. No politician serving in parliament can have two or more jobs 3. No politician can accept lobbying, make it illegal. 4. No politician gets a pay rise higher than inflation. 5. MP expenses are limited and cannot include nepotistic job allotments. 6. Any peerage or title must be earned. 7. All U.K MPs and their spouses must pay tax here if they live here. 8. No contracts for government spending of tax payers money can be awarded to any company without it being properly tendered to find the best affordable and non MP linked option. 9. In running the country's finances economic qualifications are necessary to become chancellor of the exchequer and where not possible an economic consultant who is universally suitable or acceptable to all parties should be privy to all relevant U.K finances and sought out to advise.. 10. No MP or MPs can implement any environmental, social or other strategy suggested or derived from an unelected third party to be realised or representative in the U.K without acceptance by the people of the U.K. i.e like those prescribed by and adopted from the World Economic Forum etc.and now implemented in city's like Oxford.. I never though I would ever think or say this about the political governance of my country, despite them always having a level of question, I am referring to all politicians and Lords Those responsible for the wellbeing and forward prosperity of this country and its people are never, or rarely, brought to justice for telling lies or simply being inept in their duties. They escape justice by convincingly telling only part of the truth, not the whole story, or commenting on ideals only. What they don't say, is that the essence of their story will be subject to, distant foreign laws, international laws and treaties, signed into by our governments/politicians over many past decades. Or the outcome of a needed change will be, modified, altered or binned by a minority but much louder lobbyist group, activist's and ideological political views, against the wants, wishes and needs of the majority. Government Ministers, MP's in the House of Commons, and a completely politicised House of Lords, never legally challenge or interpret any external laws with this country in mind, even though they prove to have a domestic detrimental effect to our finances, community, society and safety. Weak governance, yet self importance throughout, is our current problem, ideologs are in charge of reality in this country,

The reason Blair and Brown packed the Lords with cronies (which I don’t dispute) is because it had a massive and unfait inbuilt majority for the Tories (partly in the form of heteditary peers). It was at complete odds with the elected Commons which in 1997 and beyond had a huge Labour majority, voted for by the people. So while Starkey is correct about what Blair did, Blair was merely making a broken system more broken.

Maybe. But the Tories have been in power for 31 of the last 44 years so must take most of the blame.

Speaking as an outsider. The Lords keeps your country stable. Stability is not to be scoffed at, believe me. Consistency is also gained. Rather than wild swings from one side to the other. Whatever you do, don't get rid of it!!!

Don't talk rubbish you don't know what you are talking about. Partly the reason this country is in a mess is mainly down to the Lords decisions. We need to get rid of them and soon.

Stable my ass, they are just a bunch of dossers, most come from the commons and have life peerages, no MPs get that, abolish them for an elected chamber with a time limit on how long they can serve...

They're a group of unelected people holding up and opposing laws passed by the lawfully elected HOC. It's been a ludicrous anachronism for at least a century, so it's time to slim it down and make it democratic. And please no more automatic seats for the clergy.

For me, HoL must be non-political and free from the chains of elections to see all bills in an objective lens. Enough making all things elected, this setup is not suitable for all and every country
