Rangers v Dundee 5-2 Match Report Live at Ibrox Stadium: • FULL TIME RANGERS 5-2 ...
Tony Docherty post-match press conference - Rangers 5-2 Dundee:
"Listen, I'm hugely proud of the players for their efforts this season. I think their league campaign has been fantastic. Sometimes, teams can win two or three games and get to a cup final, but over a league campaign, to get ourselves in that top six, I think they've been fantastic.
We fell short, particularly defensively, when we went up against real top opposition in the top six. But listen, it's everything for a reason. It's good for me to see that. Getting into next season, I don't think anybody would have given us a chance. I know all you guys at the start of the season thought we were the team that was favorite to be relegated. So, to get into the top six was a fantastic achievement, and it just illustrates to me now where we need to get better for next season, and that's what we'll endeavor to do."
Rangers 5 Dundee 2 Match Report:
Full-time Ibrox stadium, and it's finished Rangers 5, Dundee 2 in a quite topsy-turvy evening here in Govan. Rangers certainly made things hard for themselves as Dundee raced into a two-goal advantage by the end of the first half.
Jordan McGhee scored the first after the 38th minute, arriving at the back post to round off a well-worked move by Tony Docherty's men. Antonio Portails then made it two with a deft backheel to double their advantage. The Rangers fans certainly made their feelings clear and Ross McCausland pulled one back a minute before halftime. He powered his way through the Dundee defence before providing an excellent finish.
Philippe Clement will be happy with the way his side reacted at halftime, with Cyriel Dessers making the scoreline level with a powered header just 7 minutes after the break. Rangers then took the lead for the first time in the evening. Todd Cantwell found himself basically on the right-hand byline, curled an excellent ball over the head of Jon McCracken. Was it a cross? Was it a shot? Did he mean it? He wouldn't care as he soaked up the adulation from the Rangers fans to give them the lead.
Substitute Scott Wright then came on and added a fourth and a fifth as time was closing out this evening. As a result, it just about keeps the title race alive for Rangers before Celtic head to Rugby Park tomorrow, knowing that a point will secure the league championship.
It finishes at Ibrox Stadium: Rangers 5, Dundee 2.
