@@Mrraerae It was UFC 229 2018, it really think it was the double weight cut, plus he overtrained for that gaethje fight, you can't just slow down that much in a span of 2 years. He looked good against Cerrone too.

@Jess G the thing is, Oliviera has to get the respect from Tony. I think he can match the pace to some degree by mixing up the grappling looks, which he will probably do. Also we are not sure who is the better striker out of the two at this point in time, classic Tony is obviously the more powerful but we will see how he changed his game up after the loss

Not to mention gassed faster than Justin Jaynes blowin his load in half a rd. Tony losing to Justin did nothing but feed doubters. Khabib said he wasn't interested cause he thinks Tony's going to go out and get chinned. Khabib knows how dangerous Oliveira is. I don’t know why Tony wasn’t promoted and payed properly over the past three years. He got injured while being the interim champ, the match with Khabib got cancelled several times and Tony is kind of crazy and difficult to deal with. But still he could have been a big deal for the UFC, he had huge star potential, like a Masvidal: having fought so much and spectacularly. Now he seems very much on his way out. This is a very bad match up for him. His only weapon is cardio and craze. In all other ways Charles ought to win. Another major gamble: if Tony loses it’s his definite exit from the top 4 forever. If he wins he remains a contender. It just seems like a match up to eliminate Tony from the top. It might be a great fight, an elite fight, but it might be Tony’s last noticeable fight. Unless he remains motivated like a Overeem but that rarely ever happens.
@isakdahl7875
@isakdahl7875 3 жыл бұрын
Overeem is a heavyweight, age is much less of a factor at the higher weightclasses. Tony is ancient for a lightweight
@tiesthijsthejs
@tiesthijsthejs 3 жыл бұрын
Isak Dahl well Overeem is becoming quite ancient as well. But you’re right about Tony’s age. And since the damage he took against Justin, it looks like Father Time is catching up with him. So you’re saying the ufc is basically doing this matchup as a changing of guards and a farewell? I guess I’m sort of ruminating about how the past three years had so much more potential for Tony. And marketability. Only two years ago he still seemed lethal and untouchable.

Things that went against Tony when he fought Gaethje - 2nd weight cut, plus not a good enough plan in the 4-6 weeks the fight was announced. Age is only a factor for someone who fights 3/4/5 times per year every year (Cerrone). Fight miles fatigue a person, not just age alone. Tony had enough time between his fights in recent years to recover and heal from injuries without looking any slower or different from his previous fight.

Love both fighters. I think Ferguson takes the win. Charles is a wicked fighter but has a tendency to buckle or "quit" under heavy pressure.

This is a great opportunity for Charles but I don't like seeing Tony lose. Watching Tony lose to Justin and just have no idea how to turn it around was saddening. There's certain people that you can't help but want to see them do good, and I actually feel that way about both guys in this fight.

i have this weird feeling that ferguson aged and hit the wall overnight. he made gathje look a lot better than gathje really is. that performance worried me. hope he proves me wrong. oliveira is the guy i picked to beat khabib but now i'll never find out with the russian retiring.

Chase Hooper vs Peter Barrett is the first fight on the prelims... Slippery Pete always brings it, anybody else surprised by the recent matchmaking for Hooper? The kid should be fighting lower-mid level regional guys, too many losses like his last one is going to wreck that Young mans confidence.. Was his downfall beating Teymur, and being rushed?
