To the misinformed people claiming Tony "stole" the 900. What the Pappas Documentary didn't show is that Tony had been trying the 900 since the late 80's and even had a photo sequence of a near make in a magazine years prior to the 900 he landed at the X-Games.

ninjadude183 Doesn't matter. What Tony Hawk did was shady. He used his fame and money to kick Tas out, and steal his trick. I admire Tony Hawk for being one of the innovators of the sport of skateboarding, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't be criticized for kicking Tas out of the Best Trick Contest to boost his fame and fortune.

@adalvldadalvld9 жыл бұрын
You can't steal a trick nobodies landed. Don't know what happened at the xgames that Tas couldn't compete but I do know there was a race to do the 900 for many years. Rodney Mullen invented almost every trick there is. Anytime a skater does an Ollie they're technically stealing his trick
@brodyzakira30789 жыл бұрын

How does such an old man like myself become so knowledgeable about skateboarding? Well you see, I teach a lot of youngsters at Marshdale Cottage Community Center about Bitcoin Science and after class the youngsters like to get a little extreme by doing some "big airs" off of the jump ramps at the park near by! first of all, i want to say this, this trick looks awesome and extremely difficult, secondly i want to say this, I have skated since the 90's, but i was good at it, so respect to tony, but.. IN ALL FAIRNESS (i don't know what the exact rules are on this trick with kids today and what defines this trick) but.. I'm just saying, I watched this vid, like 7 times,and in slow motion. this is called a 900 .. right, im guessing that means 2.5 turns, because 360+360+180=900 of course, now. if tony started his flip from a 90 degree angle relative to the ground, it stands to reason that he actually did a 720 , not a 900 because he and his board were at 90 degrees to ground level when the trick started and had to be at that same angle in order to land on the half pipe.. right. so , How is this 900 degrees, Unless your counting the part where he skates up the ramp to get to 90 degrees and the skate down, but... even though that would explain 900 degrees, it's not a flip of 900 degrees, it would be a skate up of 90 , a flip of 720 and skate down of 90, if he actually pulled off a 900, He wouldn't be able to land on his feet , he would be upside down , relative to his starting position on the ramp. the only other explanation is .. if, in the middle of the trick he did some sort of inverted flip, Whereby it caused him to upside down, then landing at 720 would put him upside down and 900 would put him the right way up... the problem is... even in slow motion, i didn't see him do that, I can do a sommersault, i know what they look like when you do them in a plain circle , and i know what it looks like when you flip the circle, he didn't invert it. so how the hell did he pull off a 900 and land on his feet, I don't think he did, it honestly looks like a 720, 2 Standard Sommersaults , one after the other. if anyone can tell me otherwise, i would be really really interested to know the explanation, and Please.. don't say stuff like , Tony just that good or that fast, Give me a Logical explanation to it. THANKS GUYS
@martinkuliza10 жыл бұрын
lol, Then why bother responding, Just saying, it doesn't make sense, if everyone who decided it was too long to read, posted TLDR, the whole forum would be full of TLDR LOL
@solitaryshadow397810 жыл бұрын
No flips were involved in this trick. It's a 900 degree spin. Not a flip. I didn't see him flip, I saw him spin 900 degrees and land perfectly on his feet.
@martinkuliza10 жыл бұрын
Riki Hurley Hi Mate, so.. your saying that he's spinning, as in twisting from his hips. as opposed to a sommersault where your legs go over your head. oh, ok, that would make sense, to me, when he went into the first turn, it looked like a slanted sommersault, but a sommersault none the less, but it was quick at the beginning. so if your saying he did a spin, whereby the bottom of the board was always facing the face of the half pipe, yes, then that makes sense, i thought he was doing 2.5 sommersaults and wondering if it was 900 degrees how didnt he land on his head. LOL, thanks for clearing that up. appreciate it.
@1zin110 жыл бұрын
you are think about this wrong... its a spin, from the center mass. thats it. and think of if he went off a kicker not up and down on a halfpipe. its a 900.
@martinkuliza10 жыл бұрын
1zin1 No.. Your right, i get it now, but initially because the take off spin was so fast, i throught it was a sommersault , now i understand that it's a spin from the centre mass, hence.. logically why he is able to land on his feet after a 900, appreciate the technical explanation anyway, thanks

+Reeve Isaacs The game series might be enough for most people to have heard the name, it's still not quite enough for people to really recognize or appreciate his mark, where as basketball is such a massively watched sport of all ages and demographics. Michael was on the top of the sport as well, and during his prime it was impossible to not know him. Tony's name is surely out there, and he's definitely not small-time, but most people know who Michael Jordan was and what he did, while Tony is not as relevant to people who have no interest in skateboarding. There's still plenty of overlap on people who know anyways, but basketball is by far the mainstream sport.

+TheKosh123 Yes he is. Basketball is not that massively big and popular outside of the US. Maybe in some countries. Skateboarding is way more popular than basketball i'd say in most places of the world. Besides, dude has a fucking legendary videogame that bears his name on it. Yeah there's NBA games aswell but they never even came close to a tony hawk game. So i'd say yes, worldwide he is more popular than Jordan.

***** I get your point. But as i'm saying, are you american? I dont want to make assumptions, but if you are, that's probably why you would think that. and that's normal, cause basketball is so huge over there. and no, im not sure of it because i dont know most of the countries knowledge about MJ or basketball, but over here in brazil i think its safe to say that tony hawk is indeed more famous. basketball is really not that big here.

That was such a good documentary. Sad too. It is bullshit that they didn't let Tas compete, he would've had a good chance to beat Tony.

Basketball is played everywhere, and Jordan is ridiculously more famous than Tony Hawk. In fact, him, Serena Williams and Tiger Woods are probably the only american athletes who are on par with footballers in terms of being recognized internationally.

lol who the fuck is serena williams?tony hawk got a big ass series of skateboarding games plus he's in lots of skate videos and he's a freaking celebrity

Has he done it in a standard halfpipe yet ? The one's i've seen of him are on the megaramp ( not taking any kudos away from him because it's insane! ) but there 's a lot less air time to do it in the pipe like he had done.

+drz "Lol Tony Hawk is a real person?" Really though, this has to be some new level of achievement. When you're so much larger than life that the waterheads in the next generation don't even believe you were real.
