Stevie Mac of Doolin in the 1970s had a monster of a bodhran as well with strings of old pennies in gaps in the rim to give a tamborine effect :-)

You could imagine our distant ancestors sitting around a fire in some cave in the Burren, their bellies full with the meat of a goat they had killed. All that was left was the hide and some wood for the fire. Fooling around they came up with a bodhran like that and partied into the night with the pure sound echoing through the cave and reverberating in their chests.

king sized bodhran...home made, i`d say. sounded well, as accompaniment, to the great tony.

Willie Finn looks like he ripped the belly from a dead cow & wrapped it around an old car tyre. Wherever it came from he’s getting a good sound from it. This was a fledh cheoil either in Ennis in 75 or listowel in 73, not sure which one
