This is about as good as I have seen Tony Parsons. He is describing what some call nonduality. No subject vs. object. There is just experiencing. No separation. I like it.

I am an Indian (born in Singapore). A lot of white people following Indian spirituality: Ramana, Buddha, J.K., UG, in the hope of seeing something in this life. Here is the Englishman Buddha who walks amongst us and his greatness is not known. These people all thought they had come there, but when Tony said that was something that just happened, it clicked inside me.

The message is simple. It isn’t about you ! It isn’t about me/us! Life , the world and everything in it isn’t about you or for you . But yet we try our best to make it about us. We go to the ends of the world to try and make it about us. I didn’t see this at first until now today. It took 3 days to get this message. The first day I caught a glimpse of it. The second day, I started to get angry and annoyed at the speaker because I felt he was just rambling nonsense, double-talk and gibberish. The 3rd day, I pull this up , listen for a few minutes and finally it hit me ! The words “ it isn’t about you/me!” hit me like a ton of bricks . Let that thing (the me) die! It’s glorious! Totally liberating even though there’s no one being liberated!! (It’s sounds like double talk doesn’t it? LOL )

penkata drums Maybe people don't want cessation yet, but rather to switch between being self contained or no-thing. No-thing maybe better than self-contained stress, but the desiring self enjoys its attainments. There maybe no-thing you can do to achieve no-thing within the self relative as that is paradox, but it can be pointed to, and then relative measures dissolved to be the no measure simply through breathing and relaxing inner head contraction. Since such no-thing is formless with no-thing to hold it from forming, so the self relative may form again.
@penkatadrums9 жыл бұрын
optizap I see, can you please elaborate some more on the techniques you have mentioned?
@markbrad1239 жыл бұрын
penkata drums Just breathe out through the feel of your thought into the seeing of everywhere and nowhere. Its kind of a point to form to un-form and become formless floating. Since it is formless with no hold , relative self contained form may arise again; however you may start to notice how self measuring is binding you in from the contrast. Anyhow , you'll be able to laugh at your self as it becomes lighter.
@penkatadrums9 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I am kind of doing something similar right now, or at least it feels like it. I am breathing out to relax and release all current importances that have came with thoughts, just letting everything go, which is kind of exhaling through the feel of the thought as you said, and it's leaving me hanging in the "nowhere" thing, that feels to me like the Nisargadatta's 'I am' feeling. And then I'm just trying to spend some time there, as much as I can...

Self awareness (self-consciousness) is a brain phenomenon that happens at approx. 3 or 4 years of age. There is a documentary about this somewhere on Ytube. The experiment was with children between the ages of 1-5. Children 1-2 , when put in front of a mirror didn't recognize themselves as a separate self whereas the 3-4 years had. So the sense of a separate self is not unnatural or something we can control, and it doesn't come into the picture until 3 to 4 years of age.

You know all these awakened individuals are saying there's nothing you can do to bring this awakening about. but all these people are people that have meditated for years and followed spiritual practices for years that doesn't make any sense to me. I hate to hear but there's nothing I can do to become enlightened other than let it happen.
@lllllllll51569 жыл бұрын
Darrell Hatherly Yes why is it that you only seem to hear this hopeless message from people who did do practices and now deny their effectiveness? They say that there is nothing you can do and no cause and effect. So then why do they bother speaking at all? If you listen to Tony he says that the words are just on the surface but under the words something can happen, something energetic. Well ok then he is effectively saying that people hear him and something happens energetically and so there is a reason to listen to him (an advantage of sorts) even if that advantage is the dropping of something rather than a getting something- / Now according to him there is no cause and effect and so really listening to him shouldn't cause the self to drop through some energy something. But it is the same with practices, we are already awake and so there is no cause that can make what is already the case happen. But reality isn't so stuck in logical absolutes and people have found that practices can have an enormous impact- even if after they are denied because the person then sees that there is no cause and effect relationship- And so what is the difference between going to see or watching Tony and doing practices? There isn't one and so we can see the dishonesty of telling people that practices don't work but then giving the seeker hope that listening to them somehow can help. Why does this happen? Because these speakers are speaking from an absolute intellectual level where it is easy to use logic to deny the effectiveness of practices and teachers and then believe that by pointing this out somehow their message escapes their own denialist logic. Bottom line: If there is any good reason for listening to Tony then there is a good reason for doing practices.
@Krishnafied7 жыл бұрын
Darrell Hatherly the other thing is Tony is just so damn lovable that even if he tells you you don't need to do anything you'll be back in this "practice" just to hear him and see his face again -- No? So it's like an effortless meditation, no discipline required

+swingtrade2 How can no one self inquire. Awareness self inquires and you are Awareness. It is not an individual someone but it is a "You".
@d14278 жыл бұрын
+Bill Callahan Awareness is a concept. It is the mind that inquires. Happening happens to the mind. To the absolute, nothing happens, there's no you, inquiry or mind. The theory of 'all there is is awareness in different forms and shapes' is okay as a concession/stepping stone towards the absolute truth. In the absolute there's nothing that can be named, just Being.
@MrBillcallahan8 жыл бұрын
+daisilui Thanks for the reply. Sounds right. I think I am at the scary part where Awareness or stillness or whatever we agree to call it is swallowing me up. Or am I evaporating? I absolutely feel that I know less and less and feel a growing insecurity like I am on the edge of a cliff and am about to fall off. I keep grasping onto, find myself trying to hold onto that "concept" of awareness because it's all this I has left. I love this concept called awareness though. It feels like home, but I guess it will have to be let go of sooner than later...
@d14278 жыл бұрын
Bill Callahan yes, i kinda know this feeling of doubt but then immediately i go through the logic of reality- all i know about the world is through the senses; the senses without labels of the mind are just pure knowing= Being; when sitting in Being all the rest [i.e. this body and the world] loses meaning. Even if intermittently i am drawn back to it, i am not giving it more consideration than to a night dream that has no solid foundation. Now, do i want to continue living a lie only because 'it feels like home'. Something inside revolts against this attachment of the mind to a body-mind that is non existent, to the idea of condoning living a lie. As a concession for the time being you still can live as awareness, the witness of what happens; what is important though is to incessantly reject the thought/feeling of witnessing 'what happens' in the body.
@MrBillcallahan8 жыл бұрын
+daisilui Ahh, wow, That is some reply, really impressive. Been there much? I know I have no right to ask but could you elaborate on " what is important though is to incessantly reject the thought/feeling of witnessing 'what happens' in the body." I am not sure I know what you mean by that. I thought it was best to not judge the thoughts or control them or give them much attention? I really appreciate your help here. There aren't many people who could answer that question, and very very few who could even understand it. Thanks Bill from Boston Show less

He speaks for the pre-linguistic, pre-conceptual existence, and yet there is at least one phenomenon missing in his understanding .... "temporality" (as far as I can see). Yes, there is what is happening, our "falling" or "immersing" in the everyday experience of living. However, there is our "thrown-ness" and our "running ahead", all of which demand an articulation of how the past, present and future are unified. If there is that in these lectures, great. If not, then Parsons is another conceptual wizard, given by a Cartesian ontology.

Seems like there is an obsession with the separate self and a lot of energy is put into telling people that this is their problem. Even in reference to liberation the separate self is referred to in its absence. This is the old teaching that the problem is the ego and it needs to be destroyed first. In other words this is it except for the ego and the contracted energy which must be corrected.

They didn't eat air, they begged. I live in a Thai village, a rice farming community, each morning I get up at 4am and go for a walk, at 5 the monks walk around the village with their alms bowls and it is taken for granted that they will get food in the bowls, the people give willingly. The poor gave 14 million Baht (32 Baht is 1 Dollar) to build a new temple, it took many years of collecting, I find it ridiculous because Buddha didn't want temples nor did he want to be revered. Jesus would probably be horrified to see cathedrals, popes and bishops and what had become of his teachings.

@@reconon happening is caused, I don't think that is being denied. An effect is just another cause in the making. Taken to its limits every cause could be traced back to the big bang, there is a certain inevitability about things, listening to him and changing one's mindset doesn't break the chain because this was also caused by an effect. He rightly says that clarity doesn't bring realization, that has to spontaneously 'happen', possibly the one thing without cause but it will have an effect and so another chain starts.

What she said. Thats the point. It's so totally understandable as it is so natural. We can all understand it if we just think, like actually think about it. Yes we are in a bunch as one, not only the human beings but the nature, everything. Just wrapped in ego wrapped in body as how we see, just as a shell in the visual as how we sort so. But actually just one. Every second(well to be accurate less than 'second') as a happening. But can we actually feel it. The feeling of nothingness. or everythingness(?). The feeling of being one, feeling as if I am the universe and the universe is me. As he said, it's not an understanding it's an explosion. She was saying the same thing. Yes it is hard to explain it especially as it is in a concept of words. But I thought at least, well surely he would understand what she was asking. I don't get it.
