This open is from the first season, when the show was on ABC. Devon Scott, the daughter of George C. Scott, played Randall's daughter the first season. She was replaced by Penny Peyser ("Crazy Like A Fox") when the show switched over to CBS.

It was damn hilarious. I used to love this show when it was on. I never realised there was so few eps. It would be a great thing to have it on DVD.

We loved this series, esp. the theme. It's a combination of a march and French horn concerto rolled into one.

We watched this show every week, and Love, Sidney later. Hope they come to DVD.

Great show. Also, Allyn Ann McLerie as Miss Reubner, she also played Mr. Carlson's wife Carmen on WKRP, and Molly's mother on Days and Nights of Molly Dodd.

Correction: Brad Savage is not related to either Fred or Ben Savage. The theme is called "Tony's Theme". There are some related websites that would help you find that theme, unfortunately I have yet to find any sheet music on that. You may want to look for the composer Patrick Williams in IMDb or Google his name.

This was one of my favorite sitcoms at the time, with a great ensemble cast. As I recall it was abandoned by one network and then picked up by another for the following season (was it CBS to ABC?), where it remained intact except for a new actress playing Judge Franklin's daughter. One recurrding character missing from the end credits here was "Mario Lanza, Assistant to the Assitant District Attorney." One of my all time favorite TV shows, for sure. Why doesn't TV Land bring it back??

Running gag, every episode with Mario: "Hello, I'm Mario Lanza." "Oh -- any relation?" "To who?" "To Mario Lanza." "I'M Mario Lanza!"

According to IMDb, Gary David Goldberg recalled the creators Jay Tarses and Tom Patchett not getting along with Tony Randall nor with each other. They also constantly ignored calls from Fred Silverman who cancelled the series on ABC because of their behavior despite getting good ratings. Randall returned on the condition that he didn't have to directly work with Tarses and Patchett.

Gary David Goldberg, who worked on the series, recalled in his autobiography, "Sit, Ubu, Sit", that creators/co-executive producers Tom Patchett & Jay Tarses refused to talk to ABC's chief programmer Fred Silverman, or take any calls from him. Gary believes this was why the network failed to renew the show after its first season, even though it was pulling in a 27 rating share [more than enough to warrant a second season]....

I’m from the Philly area & would to love know where his “house” is? I’m assuming somewhere in Rittenhouse Square. I’m pretty sure that it would be going for a pretty penny today.

....Goldberg also recalled Patchett & Tarses weren't taking any input from Tony, either (unlike his contributions to "THE ODD COUPLE"). As Gary remembered it..."'What's the name of this show again?', Tony likes to ask, holding up a copy of the script. 'Oh, look,, it's 'THE TONY RANDALL SHOW'! And I'm Tony Randall. Shouldn't I have something to say?'". When CBS bought the series for season two, Tony's condition for returning was that he wouldn't have to work directly with Patchett & Tarses...

theyve been doing this for yrs, apparently. They need to stop giving the successful actors/characters of a separate show their own spinoffs, tho I love Felix, the only really successful spinoff has been Frasier :D
@colong8815 жыл бұрын
What a shame - this was a very intelligent comedy much in the mould of Frasier, but it never found its footing in a time when TV programming was fast catering to the masses with the likes of Charlie's Angels and so on.

Because TVLand does not know what it is to have decent material on TV.TVLand is crap.You have a better chance on finding it on your local channel at 2 in the morning.

I'm probably gonna get a TON of angry replies for this, but I remember watching three or four episodes of this show in a valiant attempt to develop a taste for it; I really wanted to like it for Mr. Randall's sake-I was a big fan-but the 'humor' was just too cynical, and his character too hapless, for the time. It might play great if it were being broadcast today...but I still wouldn't watch it.
